I have been told that even though the tread pattern looks unidirectional, that the carcass of the tire is built to be asymmetric. I figure as I wear off the tread, it'll be time to rotate to opposite corner to get a "fresh shoulder" to work with on the outside.
Took new (non-heat cycled) ECF tires to Harris Hill Raceway, and was able to get within a second of my best time on MSC2 tires...which surprised me, as the track surface has gotten a bit worse in some corners since the PB was laid down. (1:27.6 vs. 1:26.7). The ECF compound is a little harder to warm-up (2 laps vs. 1 with the Sport Cup 2s), and the the car is a little less sharp on turn-in, and a little more prone to oversteer, but seems a good trade off for longer tire life and saving about $400 per set. Do most folks heat cycle these tires prior track use?
