Thanks for asking around. And yeah, the Thema was kind of a near-luxury car, and FWD. So losing a bit of power & making it easier to drive on the street vs the Ferrari 308 installation was probably a design goal. I stand corrected on the bearings / longevity.
Huh. Me too. I had always thought that there was a longevity sacrifice.

Plus, the benefit to having super tuned exhaust really does not show to high revs (in a cost constrained world). So it's a nice trick to have decent low end torque and and engine that makes 500hp with only 400lb-ft.
I have seen more mid range gains (around peak torque) with proper header/collector sizing. I can see it being an even bigger gain in the mids when you can go to the smaller collectors and secondaries when you have a truly even firing order in each bank.
Here's what I'm going to be interested in- the last Mustang had a special edition Boss that was a specialized drag racer.
I wonder if there will be one for this.
It IS a pretty amazing engine, even to me. I can't fathom a NA 2.6l I4 that breathes 250 hp.

I have already read about a special "drag pack" being developed by Ford Motorsports to optimize the IRS for straight-line use.

Prepped 2.7l K series are making 400whp on e85. A mild street K can make 250 easy.
But not 'murrican!

New from the factory with a warranty and brand reputation to uphold?

So? Comparing a heavily modified engine with no restrictions to one that has to meet a lot of requirements out to 120,000 miles really doesn't mean anything.
I'm sure there are 5.0l small blocks that are capable of 500hp, too. Crap, the 5.7l NACAR engines make something like 800hp.

I'll edit this- IN OUR OWN SHOP.
It would be an interesting cost comparison between the Honda I4 and this new V8. That Honda engine is really expensive.

Without knowing more details about the engineering surrounding the flat plane crank, and whether or not they had to resort to balance shafts, I have to say I'm rather impressed that they seem to have pulled off this very difficult task...And am even pleased to be eating my words in regards to it.
Although I'm still trying to figure out what they did to make it sound not-at-all like a flat plane crank V8. Hell, a pushrod SBF or SBC with "180 degree" headers sounds more like a flat plane crank V8 than any videos of the GT350.

Never been a fan of Ford but..... If the price is right my loyalty can be bought

IF Honda built them, not a problem.
My only question is price point?
oh yeah, "Repost"

I don't understand why folks say this engine sounds so good, doesn't sound good to me at all.
You are entitled to your opinion, but this particular one is completely wrong.
Well im wrong a lot so no problem, I will listen again, but the clips at the race track didn't sound all that good, sorry. I saw some people were asked on another site what engine does sound good and I was surprised a lot of folks said the 5.0 fox-body mustang, which I always thought was the case as well.

but how much $?
If anyone cares, something is happening tomorrow, Mustang wise. In Dubai of all places. Not sure what, though.

Every time I look at a shot like that last one of these cars, I wonder why Ford didn't build a real opening hatch on these things, instead of that mail slot sized trunk lid.

Oh I'm definitely going to get one of these... 15-20 years from now. I figure that's about when they'll enter my price range. I love it.

Supposedly Ford Racing already has a bolt in 9" kit for the car.

If Ford plans to offer the Cobra Jet again like they did for the 2010-2014 Mustangs, they'll need to put a solid rear axle in that (NHRA reg's once you hit a certain ET I think) so they'll probably offer it in their parts catalog.
Chevy is putting a solid axle in their drag racing COPO Camaro (for sale to the public, but not legal on the road) and I wouldn't be surprised if they offer a kit through GM Motorsports.
