The Caprice SS is already on sale in other markets:
Would you prefer the V8/RWD of the Chevy or the AWD/Turbo of the SHO?

That thing looks great. I would rock that as a DD if they can give me 5 forward cogs w/ 3 pedals as an option.

I was hoping it was a whole G8 GXP underneath. No?

I'd hope that too, but I'd rather have the GXP as its......prolly less than likely to see as many of those rolling on 26's in about 4 years anyways......
I'd take the G8 GXP > sho > impala ss......
I test drove a wagon variant of this car with the T56 in Australia nearly 2 years ago. It. was. perfect.
I believe Chevy is going to drop the "Impala" and just call it the "SS", and I'd expect the same LS3 and transmission options as in the Camaro SS.
I like it. Of course I don't see it as affordable for a while. You can already "sort-of" get this car.

V8 and RWD. Yeah I'd like a spanish transmission, but I'd rock the ever loving hell out of it just like that.
Happily saw a variant of the SS Impala yesterday when the police showed up to arrest my delightful thug doush meth head neighbor for the 50th time in the last 3 years. I thought it was a great looking car. The world will continue to turn without crown vics.
Top Gear just did a cop car comparo with the Dodge, Cheby, & Ford. And while it's not this exact car, it's probably the same thing under the skin since it's GM.
Just an FYI, the AWD Taurus came out in the lead in everything except doing donuts.

And the Dodge won it in that catagory. It makes you quake in your boots.
Did you hear the sissy siren the Chevy had?

they are still selling the Impala as a fwd sedan... the SS is (i think) the slightly shorter wheelbase version of the Caprice police car, which is just a 4 door version of the Camaro, which is a 2 door G8 with different sheetmetal, which was the next generation of the 04-06 GTO... so, yeah- LS goodness under the hood, 6 speeds with a third pedal if you want it, and rear wheels that go up in delightfully expensive clouds of smoke when you feel the need..
one thing that does bug me about the design of the car is something that bugs me about most new cars- what the hell is up with the trunk openings? they make them so damn narrow down where the trunklid meets the bumper.. it just makes it so you have to jam stuff into the corner of the trunk and makes it harder to load in larger things that will physically fit into the trunk if the opening went straight down from where it is at the top of the opening... why does every car company do this?

20 years ago called, they asked that you stop using and return the phrase "id rock that..."
In reply to novaderrik:
Uh... sorta. The Caprice and the new SS are actually the Holden Commodore LWB, so they are a longer version of the Pontiac G8. The Camaro is loosely based on it, which is the "next gen" version of the GTO, which was a Holden Monaro, which started life as a much smaller platform we know as the Cadillac Catera. So all of these cars share some greasy bits, but they are distant cousins unlike say the fox platform where nearly everything interchanged.
