I hope you spec 944/Miata/E30 guys didn't pre-buy too many sets of RA-1s for next year. The Toyo RR is the new dry weather spec tire.

I thought Spec Miata had already moved to Hoosiers.
The Toyo website doesn't have much info yet other than the fact that it exists.
That link is all I have too but I got there from a post from the spec 944 series director so I believe it is credible.

Oh, I believe it's credible. It's the first I've heard of the tire. I was just hoping to find out more about it, as every Miata owner will expect me to be an instant expert on it including lifespan on the road, expected lap times and ideal inflation pressure. In the next 12 hours.
No, it hasn't been 12 hours yet
Someone needs to buy Toyo a new letter. We have the R1R, RA1, R888, T1R and now the RR. Aka the "pirate tire".
BTW, Tread Depot lists a 205/50-15 (Spec Miata), 225/50-15 (Spec 944/E30?) and 275/35-18 (ummm). Prices there are $168, $186 and $303 respectively.

So a lot like job hunting in the IT industry then?

Rain tire is still RA-1
The rain tire could be called the Toyo RA1N but unfortunately they can only use the characters A,R,1,8 and T in their model codes

Great, a more expensive tire. Just what an entry level series needs.
In reply to ddavidv:
Quit yer belly aching and go sell me on an SE30 over an SM. I gotta get out of open class racing.

By comparison, the same store lists the RA1 as $141 in the 205/50-15. The only reason I used Tread Depot was because they had more info than anyone else. I suspect they posted MSRP for the RR and not street price because this tire is still basically just a press release.
SCCA Spec Miata switched to Hoosier this year. As far as I know, NASA SM was still using the Toyo RA-1. This weekend is the NASA National Championship at Mid-Ohio. Seems a little strange that they'd change the tire the week of their biggest event. Unless they think they have a captive audience and they need to sell a few new tires.
SCCA National racing specs the Hoosiers SM6 starting in 2012. SCCA Regional racing specs whatever they want.
NASA continued on the RA1 for 2012 and swtiching to the RR for 2013.
If you are looking at full tread RA1s from whatever source you are buying from, don't forget to budget in the tire shave down from 8/32nds to starting race depth at 4/32nds. Some guys start them shaved to 1/32nd - more grip but less life.
I get mine here: http://www.aimtire.com/
