As spring is around the corner, it's time to consider new tyres on my mighty 4x4. I currently run geolanders and I have been pretty pleased with them, they do well on the fire roads and soft sand, grip snow reasonably well, and are excellent on the asphalt, but I am wondering if there is a slightly more aggressive off-road capable tyre out there that won't suck on the highway.
I LOVED my 34” Super Swamper LTB’s Very aggressive and any downsides were mitigated by the sheer awesomeness off road and the looks!
There are several tread patterns out there between ATs and old-school MTs now, mostly thanks to the overlanding trend. Check out General Grabber X3 and the Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx for starters. They supposedly approach MT grip off road while not being obnoxious on road. I've never run any of them, my needs are squarely in the AT range.
I put Falken Wildpeaks on my XJ. They are outstanding. They have been better in every way than the BFGs they replaced.
I don't know how they would compare to the Geolanders.
Duratracs are probably one of the most aggressive things that's not miserable on the street. No personal experience with them, but I've also heard that Toyo M/Ts (expensive and heavy but durable) are unusually livable on the street for a mud tire.
As I have been very pleased with my Geolanders.. I went on tirerack's website after posting the question and discovered that they offer a more aggressive tyre now
Geolander A/T G015
I guess I should have looked first and asked questions second
