Currently, Mrs. DX has a 2012 Jetta with the 5 cylinder and has the itch to get into a newer Jetta. She drove a 2015 and didn't like it. The local VW dealership has a 2013 certified Jetta with the 2 liter/5 speed combo:

I know its a pretty ancient engine but would probably seem to be straightforward. She would be okay with a stick shift too. It has new tires as well. Would this be seen as a step back going from the 5 cylinder to the 4 cylinder?

Are you ok with a motor that was considered antiquated even 15 years ago when the mk4s were out lol.

I would get the 2.5 over the 2slow, you aren't really saving much in gas mileage and the motor is underpowered for the weight of the jetta and from the people I know, it seems the 5 cylinder is probably VW's most reliable motor (well the 2slow is also...)

The 2.5 is worth it just for the exhaust note.

The 2.5L - all the power of a 4 cyl. with the economy of a 6 . . . .

I have a 2.0L Mk4 Golf and with the gearing it makes a great around town car. It makes pretty good use of those 115 ponies.
