And what software is used to "jailbreak" the ecu/ecm?

This has me wondering.  I was told that the only swappable ecm for the 3400 was the 99 malibu.  I have an 01 impala ecm and harness, as well as the 04 Buick rendezvous ecm and harness.

Theres gotta be a challenge budget friendlyway to use one of these in an engine swap project with a stick. Gotta be. But im not sure how yet.

My gut feeling is that is BS.

In reply to Dusterbd13 :

It may be that ECM for the newer years looks for info from the BCM, but the 99 doesn’t?

The ECM from the Buick will probably need the BCM for the GM security before the engine will run on it.

At least if it’s anything like an 2002 Rendezvous. The 02 won’t even crank without a properly programmed BCM and matching key.

Wouldn't bricking the ECU after an accident violate "Right to Repair" laws? I'm sure there's some non Machiavellian reason for doing it but I'm trying to figure out what that is currently.

Probably! But this is America, and listening to consumers for a better product is the dirty talk of socialists, commie!
