We were gifted a 2013 Nissan pathfinder with the VQ35 (V6) engine. The has 115k miles and has been dealer serviced religiously. I just found the receipts and I'm astounded honestly. Every recommended tire rotation, brake fluid, coolant, oil, air filter, CVT flush was done. I'm actually very impressed with my in-laws.
Despite all that, the thing sounds like it has a Diesel engine today. I checked the oil and it may be a little over filled. The dipstick hole is way down the side of the engine and it was hot so I only wiped and checked twice.. it may have still been draining back to the pan.
Would over filling cause clackety clacking?
Do these require valve adjustments or something?
Any other ideas?
Why are you concerned about an improvement?
Is just the sound different than previous or is the drivability different than previous too?

Can't tell you - I don't have A (previous) to compare to B (current). Just got this car....
It seems to have good power, not sluggish. Just noisy around idle when I can hear it best.

Sounds like a blown exhaust gasket? I blew a gasket pretty far down the exhaust stream and it got really tractory.

Came to make this joke.
I mean, it is a timing chain engine, they are always noisy.
If it is transverse, the downpipe/Y pipe is usually bad and crazy expensive so few people repair it.

Check for cracked exhaust manifolds. My memory at this point may be faulty, but when I worked at a Nissan dealer awhile back we sold a lot of exhaust manifolds.
