I was tired of paying $85 per bottle for nitrous oxide so I decided to buy a Nitrous refill station. WOW - The prices!! By the time I add in duty and the US to Canadian exchange plus the freight its too expensive.
I know many of you may suggest that I freeze my little bottle and use a tranfer hose from a mother bottle but my wife gets a little annoyed with car parts in the freezer rather then steak. So, I want to build my own transfer / refill station.
I've got hoses, air/water seperator and a scale. I can buy the mother bottle from a local gas supply company for cheap. I need a pump. Has anyone made their own and what pump did you use. Even if I buy a NOS or ZEX pump the price is still pretty high. I doubt that NOS or ZEX make thier own pumps so where are they getting them from? Any thoughts?
Is that for a 20lb bottle? How much is nitrous there?
Sorry i can't help, just curious, as i'm used to paying $40 a bottle.
20lb - I wish! It's a standard 10lb bottle! Typical price is around $8/lb. The price is about the same whether if I buy it at a speed shop or at a welding shop. RIDICULOUS!
What about a dental supply company?
You need a special permit to buy medical grade NOS and the pumping units they use are less pressure.
By the looks of things over at speedtalk, you've got it figured out.

Ah, so there is a difference.
The stuff for cars is called nitrous+ it has sulphur added to discourage kids from inhaling it. Most welding gas supply places carry it.
I have a brand new NX refill station I'm looking to get rid of, if you're interested. Was going to do my own refills, but blowed up my nitrous car before I got the chance. :)
jack rabbit, how much are you looking for the nx fill station, im in the market for one in my speed shop.
In reply to Jackrabbit:
If you still have the refill station I will buy it from you.

Haven't been here in a long time. I ended up buying a transfer pump and getting the big 5 foot bottle from the local welding gas supply place.
When my 20 lb tank is empty I use a vacuum pump to evacuate the tank before hooking it up to the transfer pump. With a vacuum in the tank it sucks in maybe 15 lb of juice before I have to start the transfer pump.
