I'm kind of intrigued by this swap, but know zero about Japanese engines. (Heh). Can the 1jz really make that kind of power reliably?! Is this kind of plan so crazy it just might work?

E46 with 1jz-gte swap

People have been making 1000hp on stock 2JZs for a while.  It takes more turbo and boost if you don't do anything to the head though, which makes things a bit dicier.

The stock internals are works of art, and way heavier-duty than they need to be for a 300hp turbo engine or even a 200hp nonturbo engine.

Not sure about the 1JZ, have never seen one.

That’s cool. 1JZ is a 2.5L twin turbo mostly used on the mk3 Supras and Soarer overseas. They make ~280hp stock IIRC and can go as high as your wallet allows.

Yeah, they aren't even pushing that engine yet. I want to 1/2jz swap this 300SEL I'm looking at. No space to keep the car currently

Pricey but cool.  Has the ironies considering what is in the Supra and I believe even Shaguar is getting in on the BMW powerplant bidness in their F-type.  Mini were first?  laugh edit. Well McLaren of course. blush  And who knows what else from the mists of time.

IIRC there is one small and easily fixable issue with the 1JZ, but I forget what. I've kinda toyed with this swap into my BMW as they actually make better low end torque than a 2JZ and there's a kit to bolt one to a BMW transmission.

LS?

Seems to be the answer to everything else around here...  *grumble grumble*

( have a lot of the bits to do a really cheap Buick SUV aluminum 5.3 swap into teh RX-7.  I have a harness, computer, LS2 oil pan/pickup, and a Chevy-to-BOP adaptor so I can use a cheapo BOP TH350 or TH400, whatever i find first for fifty bucks.  But then I remember the GRM contingent whose answer to everything is "OMG LS SWAP" and my eastern european anti-coercion genes kick in and berk that.  Makes me want to buy up all the cheap aluminum 5.3 blocks so I can scrap them at a loss, out of spite)

If you want to let all that 5.3 LS swap "junk" go, I may know of an interested party. wink

In reply to Indy-Guy :

Sadly, the actually valuable parts are only accessible to me because someone keeps insisting that I "get that rotary junk out of my car and put a piston engine in it"

My counter is that I want to make sure I can drive home and not need a tow after the piston engine junk blows up.  Have seen way too many LS1 "engine kits" after people hit the rev limiter on a track day.  ("engine kit" = glue all the pieces together and you have an engine)  My favorite example had the guy picking piston rings off of the right side lower control arm of his CTS-V.

I could tow with a truck, but if I wanted to drive a truck everywhere, I wouldn't be involved with motorsports.
