I don't know man, but in my line of work I actively fish out my customers that are into cars. The saddest part is 9/10 times I know more about their car than they do. "Hey nice 966"

customer "huh?"

me "that's the style of 911."

customer "oh yeah it's a great car"

me "hey, wanna come to our local autocross this Saturday?"

customer "leave me alone"

That's the kind of customer that would say "930 Turbo"

I called the BAT writer out for that once, got 15 likes and my post removed later for being "not constructive "

29 year old non-car guy came home for a few weeks - we changed out his accessory belt and I got him some new headlights as a gift.  We worked together and had fun.

His (grad student now professor guy) response was "it's like working in the lab on some of the equipment".

He may never be a car guy but he does have basic mechanical skills.

YES!  I remember late 70s/early 80s you could go to "the back row" of the dealerships and see the really interesting stuff... MGs, Triumphs, Jags, Opels, 914s and a lot more.  There was one dealer I talked to and found out that they just sold a Formula Ford!
