And I'll agree with that as well, though mine likes UK better than US. Any car show that miraculously holds the attention of a normally uninterested female is brilliant beyond comprehension and should be approached with a reverent sense of awe.

Disagree. I think it's just the opposite, as do a number of other car enthusiasts on this site.
I think its interesting how many people were unhappy about the toyota corona and x1/9 destroyed on mythbusters and how long the discussion went on about it, but since top gear is a "car show" its ok for them to do much worse. My original reason for posting was that I happened to see part of the episode on TV showing them crossing the double yellow, but I chose not to watch the show (both us and uk) because of the pointless destruction of the nicest examples of older cars that they can find. I don't find that even slightly entertaining, and to me any show that does that is really not something i want to watch.
That's absolutely your choice. But I can tell you that you are missing out on some good shows.
"Good shows" is subjective. As always, what's enjoyable to some, may not be enjoyable to others.
If anyone here doesn't like caviar, i'd like to argue with them about it, so please post up.
Cavier is disgusting and your killing millions of little fish fetuses.

Unlike the James Mays of the world, I expect a car to do more than merely start most of the time and have the shape of a block of cheese.
My own voice: they may have been the platform for some good cars, but an Aries has less appeal to a car enthusiast than a Checker Marathon. At least the Checker has bad, dated styling. The K-car just exists as kind of background clutter.
Ah, but the Aries either gives you something to drive while all your other cars are inoperable due to questionable ideas, or gives you a starting point for hilarious turbo goodness.
This might be the most time I have spent defending an Aries.

No, I am not a fan of the UK version. Don't understand why anyone in this country would like it as much as you guys do. It is mildly entertaining I guess and occasionally funny, but not something I go out of my way to watch. I find it tiresome and fake.
Lighten up Francis
Wow, I have to lighten up because I don't like a show on tv? When did it become your policy to not allow opinions? Everybody's got one you know.
BTW, I played the lighten up Francis line just a few days ago, but it was in response to a personal attack that seemed out of line....you know, it seemed to fit the situation.
Agreed, I think the appropriate response is, "I reject your reality and substitute my own".

Truth. We get the UK show here, and every time we have a family function, somebody puts that show on and thinks I (the car guy) should be watching it. I can't stand the forced humour, and pretentiousness
I didn't read this until after I posted, but this is exactly how I feel about it.

I try my best to watch it but the silly little nonsense they engage is just too contrived, like someone else said, its an entertainment show.

I really tried to like the show. Just not happening. The host look like they would rather not spend time in the same room unless they had to.
On the other hand, I mourn that the real TG has just finished season 17. Have to wait for the end of the year for another fix.

I seem to recall while "developing" the Daytona/Laser twins, Chrysler used the Aries/Reliant as mule cars. The images of them storming around a track was both cool and humorous at the same time. I would think they would make a great sleeper if properly modded and in the right hands. (Did I just defend K cars?)
BTW, I just watched an episode of TGUK and just realized that THEY DRIVE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD ALL THE TIME!!!!!

Caviar is delicious and you're an un-cultured philistine that should learn to appreciate caviar for what it is and not over-analyze it.

Can you guys not complain about watching an entertainment show about cars? I have this feeling that if you complain enough someone might notice and take this show and The Car Show off the air. I would much rather watch these two shows than another damn show about a Bachelorette or Cake Wars.

Remember just a few years ago when Speed meant NASCAR TV
on a side note... http://thedodgegarage.com/the_reliant.html yes the fast K car has been done... :)... if they can make a mini van fast the K car should be a breeze.
Don't know why I was so dismayed to see TGUS kill the VW truck. That thing was pristine. I could care less about the other two pos's, but that truck was sweet.

You're right. The Reliant is the true driver's car. The Aries is far too plebeian.
When ever there are cheap car challenges it is 90% chance the cars will be beat to hell at the end. Either by out right destruction or some sort of challenge that involves lots of damage. That is just they way top gear works.
Top Gear UK destroys Morris Marina's all the time and the local Marina club always complains. They just destroy more. It just the way the show works. It is just TV and the cars are just sheet metal.
About the road driving. Sure the road is closed down. Remember there is not just the cars being filmed, but there is also the camera car too. You need to close the roads to allow the camera car to get in position any way. Plus who wants a good scene ruined by traffic?
This weeks show was absolutely AWESOME!
For almost the whole hour I wasn't ready to rag on Adam and my wife and I laughed out loud over and over again.
I was in awe of that car and airboat, both individually and the race scenes. The boat almost flipped at the end and I jumped to my feet hollering, as if I could warn him or help.
The stupidity of the truck challenge worked very well. It began slowly and up until Tanner began his burn out session I was worried it was going to be the worst stereotyping ever seen on TV - and that includes TG UK's drive thru the southland with gay slurs written on the cars.
If every episode could be this good we'd be saying TG UK? Oh, that's still on?

Just watched it tonight. I also thought it was very good.
I thought it was ok, i chuckled a few times.
The truck "test" was pretty ridiculous, but it's just entertainment.
I think the biggest laugh came from Tanner, STILL spinning his tires "I think i'm going to go for some coffee guys, see you later!"
I need to finish watching it, I only caught the first 10 minutes till they went to commercial. Adam kept saying his truck was only a 6 cylinder though? Is that right? That cant be the biggest motor they offer in that truck is it?
I thought it was a pretty good episode as well. I was surprised at the start of the race, seeing the car and the boat taking off down the street together.

It is only a 6 cylinder. It's a Cummins.
This was probably the best episode yet.
Rutledge Wood is a grassroots kind of guy, and his goofy humor makes my 7 year old son laugh.
I'm also really excited that an episode of Top Gear is going to feature a Jeep. It's killed me that the UK version has avoided the short wheelbase jeep in all of their off-road comparisons, but given how they hold their value, I can't really be surprised.
