I love the GRM forum, but it is mostly road-racing type stuff.
Is/are there any GRM-type offroad forums that you guys visit? I love the mix of brands/types of cars/ and builds. Is there anywhere that does a similar challenge but for offroad/ 4x4 stuff?
Thanks in advance!
I mean there is Pirate4x4. Though they have everything from million dollar trophy truck builds to $1500 bro-lite builds.

And in terms of community niceness, they're on the other end of the spectrum...
Expedition Portal
See the forums sections for specific vehicle manufacturers. It's where I get all my info for Montero.

Yes they can be uhmmm.... a little abrasive...
Why not ask questions and post 4x4 stuff here? I’ve never had or seen and discouragement of that here. There’s many 4x4 enthusiasts here, myself included.
Pirate 4x4 has our level of frankenstein fabrication and ill-advised swaps as well. I just hate reading bright text with a black background.
I also do offroad stuff, you can see my Samurai in my garage. I've made a few threads on offroad topics and posted plenty of questions...GRM fulfills my 4x4 needs.
Pirate is a good place for heavy tech, Expeditionportal is definitely good for the practical and community side of things. And yes, of course off-road type content is welcome here (in my experience), there's just not as much of it as some other places.
Pirate is like sand paper toilet paper, I think its the root cause of me being a dick on the internet.
I dont have an off roader atm but I have had a MJ and a samurai. I currently have a 428k mile 100 series land cruiser and if I buy an off roader it will be an imported Jimny or an imported Mitsubishi J53/54.
I have a built Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited. There are enough off-roaders here to hold a conversation with.
Honestly a very large amount off 4x4ing and mud bogging etc is grm like. Plus you can throw in the gambler 500 aswell.
Rick pewes tiki jeep definitely screams grm

Oh, I don't think there's any discouragement at all! And I've read every off-road focused build thread I've found on GRM. I just don't have a build or questions now but really enjoy reading build threads in my free time.
After a possible move to the desert in the future, and provided I have a place to store my tools and build, I'd love to get a budget 4x4 build going!
In reply to everyone else:
Thanks for all the suggestions! I've stumbled on Expedition Portal and Pirate 4x4 and they're both pretty interesting lol

Watch Dirt Every Day from Motor Trend (pay to subscribe or go to YouTube). You can also search something like “Samurai budget build” or substitute “Scout” or “FJ40” on YouTube and see if you find the right videos.
I think Pirate was the first forum I ever joined, I lurked there for a few years prior.
It's abrasive, but mostly good natured. I spend about as much time in General Chit Chat, and Outdoor Sports and Rec (i.e. firearms) sub forums there, as I do here. :flipoff2:
Post your offroad build and/or questions here, there's plenty of us with more off road than on road build experience.
I have a lifted 96 Bronco and would be all about an offroad section here. i do hunting, fishing, camping, and epic rock crawling with my 13 yr old son.
There was a short lived offroad sub forum here, 2-3 years ago. It didn't get enough activity and was adsorbed back into the main forum and/or project cars forum.

There was one at one time not long ago.
I also lurk at pirate sometimes, used to be a member but dont remember my password. I had a tracker then a 91 rodeo XLT that were built and used for mud and mild off road stuff. The only good offroad stuff is 2hrs from me just like the dragstrip so I stuck too cars after that but love builds and action photos
Also if you are of the Toyota persuasion there is Ih8mud

I try to use this site for diesel stuff. I can’t stand the knuckle dragging bro dozer sites. Plus, I’m pretty sure the peanut gallery here is as knowledgeable as any forum on any subject concerning ICE. The only negative with this forum is that there really isn’t much traffic. You’ll usually get a good answer but it might not be fast.
In reply to A 401 CJ :
That’s true, there’s a very good mix of knowledge here- lots of engineers and mechanics and fabricators. Which is a nice reprieve from most other forums.
In reply to all else:
I guess this would be a good time to ask “what’s a good auto news site these days?”
Because it sure as hell isn’t Jalopnik anymore- that site went to hell quickly!

A lot of us here are doing things other than road-racing. There's actually a pretty big group of rally/rallycross competitors here on GRM, and a lot of people with offroad rigs as well, many of them built "GRM-style"
I tend to drive off the tarmac as much as on (my suburban commuting excepted!)
Grassroots Motorsports includes off-road pursuits.
The magazine is focused on tarmac based sports, because that's where their advertisers are. I'd love to see the forum get more off-road postings.
