Oh No! I realized my race car ownership is like a teen romance movie.

We all know the formula; guy/gal aspires to really good looking unobtainable person, get's their wish then realizes it not what they want and realizes  boy/girl next store that was right there all along, is really right for them.................it's all so cliche

Case in point:

I've owned and raced the Datsun 1200 for 30+ years now. It's loads of fun to drive but rather slow, it's a cute car but will never be described as achingly beautiful.   

Years ago I threw the Datsun over for a fancy D-sports Racer, the car's performance was nothing short of phenomenal (a mere second a lap slower than a Roush Trans am car) but the ownership experience was miserable. The car need constant attention and took all of my money yet I soldiered on thinking it would get better.  Finally after three years I got the  the Datsun back.

I now have the Formula 500 and so it makes the Datsun seem even slower and so those thoughts creep back in.

Two weeks ago I was at a Porsche club track day with the Datsun and it was a reminder of how slow the car is. I was also reminded of how fun the little car is; people love the car, mostly because it's slides in lovely 4 wheel drifts and the motor revs like mad. I enjoy driving the car regardless of lap time and that's when it hit me.

OH NO..................it's like a plot out of a teen romance, it's all so cliche............. sigh, the humanity of it all. 

Time to stand outside the garage holding a boombox over your head. 

Is your Datsun wearing glasses? If so just take them off and she's instantly 10X hotter.

We all had that friend who was a total sap for the naughty librarian rock videos.................I'm that guy. Note my wife wear glasses.

As for the Datsun; I have removed the lenses off the front of the car and it does look 10 times hotter.

Maybe enhance the lil gal. No not a b00b job, but yes bigger jugs. Lik those in the 1500 motor you mentioned. 

Does it have a really cool soundtrack full of 80s alternative music? :)

When it had a stereo in it yes; everything from the Clash to The Cramps to Oingo Boingo. We once drove it from Vegas to Long Beach for a  New Years Eve concert (Untouchables and Oingo Boingo).

Yes, the 1500 does have the largest jugs possible (77mm) and also it's butt got bigger with the passage of time (the axle is 3 inches wider than stock) .

No, not for sale. Whenever those thoughts creep into my brain I usually drive it right after and remember how much I like it.

Of course if someone wants to give me 20 grand for it........

Yeah that's pretty much were I'm at............the motor turns 18,000 RPM. My 125 only went to a mere 13,200 RPM.
