So, how bad are the stop leak additives for engines?
I used some in my old S13 (KA24DE) with a blown head gasket and burnt piston ring. It didn't hurt any, but it didn't help any, either.
Hmmm, this Neon I just bought has a pretty serious oil leak, and I'm not wanting to spend any more money than I have to on it.
old neons leak oil from the headgasket. typically on the side of the motor closest to the firewall.
If it were a seal like the crank seal or something I would consider suggesting an additive that would swell the seal or at least soften it. I've had decent results with brake fluid actually. But that's not usually the case on one of these.
Get the proper crank pulley puller (trust me on that) and pull the head. Change the gasket, timing belt while you're in there, maybe the tensioner too. couple hundred bucks and a weekend of jacking around, it'll be good as new.
