I've been considering a fun car and have looked at the 2019 Challenger Scat Pack. I drove one the other day and like the comfort and performance with the 6.4 engine. I also drove the Camaro not in love with it. Mustang is the other obvious pick to drive next. I've not found alot of issues with the Challengers looking online but wanted the GRM opinion. Anything else I should consider? Not looking to track or autocross the car. Just a decently fun daily that is comfortable.

I drove a Mustang GT with the Performance Package 1 and a Challenger Scat Pack Widebody last Fall, and they were both great cars. While the Mustang had more bells and whistles, and the fit and finish was a little better, I liked the raw ridiculousness and the extra interior space of the Challenger enough to make it my pick between the two (plus, I like Mopars better than Fords). If I were looking for a performance coupe, it would be a coin flip honestly; you really can't go wrong with either one.

Considering that the LX/LC chassis is over 20 yrs old, since it’s a Benz deal, and no real changes since its inception, I wouldn’t expect any problems.

I don't believe that the Mopar hot rod offerings are going to be available that much longer.  If you are attracted to the Challenger then get one, while you can.

In less than 10 years we will look back in disbelief that you could so easily just walk in and buy so much brute cubic inches.

Mustang is my personal pick of the 3 for what you want. I like the Ford infotainment system and how the car is laid out.

I think if you didn't have any real need for an autocross or track car I'd go for the Challenger. Everything I've seen about them says they handle good enough to be a fun street car but mostly exist to be ridiculous and comfortable at the same time.

If you feel the Mopar, go for it.

Thanks for the responses. I'm kinda leaning towards the Challenger. I think out of the ones I have driven it's the most comfortable out of the 3. Drove a Mustang at lunch and it's a nice car and I'm a Ford guy normally but just not blown away by it. Having a Exocet I'm not in need of a track toy if I want to do that.

Dodge has some cool colors on the new Challengers but I feel I would have to get a white one.  Just feels right.

My dad is seriously considering a Challenger. He hasn't decided which spec, other than automatic and V8. Since you asked about other cars to consider, I figured I'd give you the other cars he's considering:

  • Porsche Macan
  • Porsche Panamera
  • Alfa Guilia
  • Lexus GS (Hybrid or V8)
  • Audi A5
  • Audi A7
  • Mustang Convertible GT

I nearly leased a Challenger rather than the Alfa, but my wife veto'd a Challenger.

I've driven both V8 'stangs and V8 Challengers and my preference is for the Challenger as it's a tad more practical - I've actually had four grown adults in one, including myself, and they were comfortable with the accommodation.

They're politically incorrect in a way that makes me grin every time I drive one. I actually do like the infotainment system as long as it's the 8" screen version, the default rental car one isn't that great. It's a pretty mature system, also found in Jeeps and IIRC Maserati (but not Alfa) and tends to work pretty well with both Android and iOS.

I like them from the looks and sheer ridiculousness stand point, but I can't get over the weight. I rode in a friends recently, and why the rear seat has some extra room, it still feels tight up front to me (and I'm not a big guy at 5'8"). But then again, I also don't need a "practical" car so it doesn't matter to me. No kids, girlfriend has a Fit if she needs to take the dog somewhere, so I can drive whatever I want.

For a DD, cruiser, road trip car I think they would be absolutely awesome. But when it comes to actually dropping $50k+ on a Challenger Scat Pack Widebody (which is the spec I'd want), I'm not sure I'd be able to pull the trigger over a Mustang GT PP2, SS 1LE, used Cayman S, used Z51 Vette, etc.

i think the only advantage to the Mustang would be better mpg.   but knowing you're talking Scat Pack and not RT Plus, i'm guessing it's mpgeeznuts to you.
