There's several hillclimbs in Oregon.
And they're legal:

OP, what exactly is touge? Is it just backroad 10/10ths blasting? I used to be very into this until I tried auto-x and track days.
It's like a track day except without the controlled conditions and the ability to be on a road that has runoff and one-way traffic and begins again at its end. Also leave out instruction by racers, cornerworkers and flaggers and on hand emergency services.
It does offer the bonus of continuous and varied impact zones in the left turns and the opportunity to hit other cars head-on if one runs wide or spins in right turns. Also, the law enforcement that's conspicuously absent at track events is in play which can really add the the excitement as well as getting the costs back up to road racing levels.

what could possibly go wrong?
Hey man, I live in bend, the best touge you'll run is highway 242. Google dee wright observatory. I run this every night around midnight in the summer. It's a great way to shakedown a car and wear in parts. (And wear out...)
That being said- touge is dangerous as hell and people die ALL. THE. TIME. Is it really worth the risk, yo? If you even remotely wish to be good, start at autocross. That's where all of us did. There's a good group of us in Salem. We race rain or shine. It's cheap too. And you'll learn plenty. What's your car mang?

Good folks, well attended autocross and hillclimbs.
Thank you all for your imput an sorry if i spell horrible. I started in a ef civic, but now i run a protege es 1.8, I understand the danger of it but if you saw the area we use and protical that goes into it.. it isnt as bad as youd think. Haha we are very respectful an conscious of our surondings and fellow drivers/racers. 3 years of touge racing out there now never seen 1 cop.. not to say its impossible haha

Exactly.
I'm just going to say this. It's illegal, endangers others and yourselves, and you're not going to find much support for that kind of "motorsports" around here. You make everyone associated with this hobby look bad when you do things like this.
Son, I am dissapoint.
It is excellent practice and you dont go as hard as possible, i very rairly try to run to my or my vehicles potential.. more just "spirited driving" amongst experienced friends in a area with 0 population.
We run in a area so remote there are no drive ways, houses or pedestrians, and we inspect the area. passing or leaving your lane is illeagle. If you break rules its over and your out. I understand it is dangerous but it is the cheapest way to get good practice. Im not arguing i understand what you mean and im sorry if im making the sport look bad in anyway, just curious if were the only people around that are into mt. Racing
It only takes once and if it happens to you it'll F' you up for a long time. Jail and lawsuits are no joke.
Seriously, there are so many good places to go and improve your skills in a safe manner. You have some really good tracks up there and plenty of hill climbs that are fully supported. Enjoy them and take advantage of them.
Agreed, i would love to drive in any of those events. Thanks for posting them. Is there a bmw club or maybe just a m3 club around eugene?
I allready plan to race auto cross this summer i was really just askin, would like to meet some skilled respectable people who are into the same thing. Like i said we would just go cruise. its not like jdm option its way more tame haha. Really though sorry if i pissed anyone off just seein whos around
Here's another bonus of legit/sanctioned events - timeslips. They don't exaggerate and they don't lie. Glad you're leaning towards organized motorsports. Trust me, there isn't anyone on here who doesn't enjoy a good country road - at about 8/10th's or less. But trying to drive hard on a public road is just a measure of who is willing to take greater unnecessary risks. We have self proclaimed "touge" drivers show up at our events once in a while. They get stomped, because most really aren't very good drivers, they're just reckless.
10/10th's, shooting for 11 only belongs in controlled conditions. I lost a good friend in high school (a long, long time ago) who was horsing around on a back road. It was a road that everyone, and I mean everyone, said they had never seen another vehicle on going the other direction, because it pretty much went from nowhere to nowhere. Only on this day, there was another vehicle on it. He came wide around a corner and slammed head on into a conversion van. Screwed up the other driver pretty bad and he lived another 10 years or so as the proverbial "vegetable" before he finally passed. Not worth it.
You'll find that almost all of us that frequent this board participate in only legal, sanctioned racing activities. I've been autocrossing with the SCCA since 1983 and did wheel-to-wheel racing in the late 80's and early 90's. The latest hot thing is track days and PDX events, where you can satisfy your racing itch in a legal manner. Look them up - they're fun, low pressure events that don't cost an arm and a leg. And you'll never have to worry about going off a cliff or getting arrested.

I know you've heard enough already, but let me just throw my 2 cents onto the pile.
Its one thing to go cruise a canyon with some friends. You all head up, maybe drive a little spirited, as someone mentioned before maybe 8/10ths max. Even this is looked down upon by some, but at worst you will get a speeding ticket.
Its another thing entirely to make it competitive. As I understand it, real Touge racing is where someone leads and someone else follows, and the leader basically tries to lose the other guy. Sounds like an excellent formula to make you push way harder than you ever should on public roads.
The moment you enter competition into the equation, things become exponentially more dangerous. Keep competition off the road. There are no winners or losers when it comes to competitive street racing of any kind. Only idiots.
