Nothing exciting here. Wife's DD needs tires soon. 2013 Ford Fusion SE. Front wheel drive and never goes over 90mph. In southern California for the next year or two so snow and rarely any rain. 235/45/18 is the size.

What are some tires you guys recommend?

I prefer quiet tires with good braking to be honest.

Any sites I can get killer deals on? I know the Ford dealer price match on tires so it would be great to find an awesome deal and have them try to match it.

I'm a Tire Rack fan (www.tirerack.com) but I bought my last pair of "black and round" at Sam's Club, to get the road hazard warranty.

I just renewed my Sams membership Friday! Great idea. I'm hoping to pay under $150 a tire.

Based on the internet's raving reviews I bought a set of Generals and they sucked. I later replaced them with Cooper RS4s which were awesome. I have since bought RS5s for my wife's Corolla but haven't had them installed yet.

Generals! I have them on everything, and love them.

I've been wanting to try some of Coopers. I've about had it with Michelins. They age out long before they wear out. I have pair of Yokohama on the wife's van and may try more of those when needed.

I've bought most of my tires lately from Discount Tire, but they are about to get on my nerve with some of their practices. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Sam's or Costco (in that order).

My Focus has the Cooper RS5's and they are surprisingly good tires. Great in the pouring rain too!

I was going to say General RT43 (they combined the RT/HP line into the new RT43 which comes in T/H/V speeds), but that doesn't come in 235/45-18, it does come in 235/50-18 though, close enough.

I'm partial to cooper CS5 on a wife mobile. Or some michelins that last forever if she racks up the miles.

I was very close to purchasing a set of General G-MAX AS-03 for the Jag but after talking to the local tire shop that sells them they told me that they are seeing a lot of them coming back in with side wall issues. They said that they were a great tire but untill the side wall issues get resolved they would recommended I stick with the Continental ConitProContact that I am running now or go to the EXTREMECONTACT DWS 06. At less than $130 a tire for the Continental's in the size I need that seems like a very good deal for a fantastic tire.

Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3s. I love them on my VW!

I'd second (third) everyone else on going with the Cooper CS5 tires. They are most excellent in the wet and are a great value when compared to Michelin.

Yep, my Generals had bulging sidewalls too. Tried to get them replaced under warranty and they said it was normal. Those tires were way too loud and rough riding.

I just put a set of Conti DWS on the 525i wagon and they're great. My position as a racer is I don't need more tire than a car can reasonbly use if I need grip limits for something. I gave these the 100% off ramp test and they have very good grip and a predictable breakaway. Excellent wet performance as well.

(Edit: picture added to show off the incredibly time-consuming restoration of the BMW style 5 wheels. Disassembled, stripped, polished, cleared the barrels, blasted, copy CAD plated 136 studs, cleaned centers, reassembled)

I just got through buying tires for the wife's car. I went with the Conti PureContact tires, 60k warranty on them. Quiet, good wet and dry traction and they are alow rolling resistance tire so more MPG's for me. I bought them from tirebuyer.com, you get a discount and free shipping when you have them shipped to a participating local installer. I also had a mail in rebate at the time so it ended up being about $140 a tire.

Coopers seem to be a good bet. I have Maxxis and Sumitomo on my car right now and no complaints about either.

Well, I found out that the Ford dealership will price match any tire deal plus military discount (15-20%?). Think I might go with some version of Conti's. Not figured it out yet.

The Conti DWS are probably the best all-around all-season tires I've had on a car. While I typically don't consider tires with less than 1 Million miles worth of survey results from Tire Rack, early surveys combined with their official test results make it look good enough that I'd also strongly consider the TrueContact if I were in the market for a non-sporty appliance tire.

Another vote for the Conti DWS.

I picked up a set earlier this year for my Mazda6, and I love them. Way better than the Kumhos that I had used the previous few sets.

On the pricing side, I found an online deal at Pepboys that ended up about 8$ more per tire than the tirerack shipped price, and included free mounting and balancing. Saved me about $75, and the local store had the tires in stock. Might be worth looking into online prices at the local shops

While I haven't run any AS Generals, I did lose one of my Altimax Arctic to sidewall damage from a pothole.

It may not rain often. When it does, you'll very much appreciate having a good rain tire.

I've driven in the rain here. It's never the rain that's the problem, it's the fact that the locals here cant drive in the rain.

I can't say anything bad at all about the Conti DWS for great all-round driver use. I haven't bought a set in a few years so I wasn't sure of current pricing, but if they're in the $130 range as Dean suggests, I wouldn't look anywhere else.

We just put 4 Nitto Motivos on the wife's Mazda 6. It was the cheapest all-season available in the size, but I have been damn impressed so far. very smooth ride, really quiet, and excellent rain handling. Good warranty too.

I usually buy from Discount Tire because they have prices as good as Tire rack but have locations all over the southeast, my normal stomping grounds. They also air up, rotate, or patch tires for free no matter where you bought them. I'll support that sort of behavior when I can.

As a matter of fact they're doing a set for me today and the guy at the counter was talking about his 900hp mopar drag car, and the tech handling the tires told me the BMWs he recently drove at a track experience day had the same kind of tires I was buying, and how good they are. I'm lucky that the local branch has real car guys.
