I'm with Dean. Not Pecora but Dow Corning 795 silicone sealant has been used to hang glass off of aluminum extrusions and last for decades.
Fill a groove with it or cut it with a knife. Best to just tool it before it cures. Stays slightly pliable. I don't think sanding is an option. Note: it'll probably take a specific primer to bond properly.

edit: re read your OP. Silicone can't be painted. But it is available in a lot of colors.
