oops - sorry, didn't look up the production figures - my point - something like 150,000 a/c 911s produced vs 13,244 308s makes for a decent selection of cars in various states of repair.

I am converting a 1976 912E to 911 using a 1976 2.7 engine with CIS injection, straight forward job.
Being a Porsche Guy for years i say, if you can do an upgrade then do it. If you can find a 911 for the same money, that is the best way to go in the end. The conversion process really isn't too hard, roadsportusa is correct, very straight forward in the end.
There are always nay sayers around, that will talk you out of doing something, but there are also others who will say Go For It. I am in the second camp. Start with the best chassis you can and go from there. Even better, if you can get a chassis with a bad motor you are half way there. Sell off the bits you don't want, put that back in the kitty and you are on the way.

Oddly enough they always seem to stay 2/3 as expensive as the 911s from my understanding. That's still a pretty big number these days.
