Hi folks. I should be getting my powder coating kit any day now and have one question. I know you either hang the part in the oven, or set it on a stand in the oven. Let's say you have a part that needs to be finished on all sides; like a bracket. What do you do about the small hole or gap in the coating left by the wire or stand?

It's ignored.

What he said. My company powder coats a lot of stuff, and you just hang it for the least amount of blockage. If it's critical we'll sometimes touch up the bare spot with a paint pen.

Ok, thanks guys. Since I've not done a single part yet I only assumed it would be small enough to not be a big deal.

Hang the bracket through the threaded hole on the wire. You have to chase the threads afterwards anyways.....

I want to see pics of the operation. Please.

Your wish is my command. I'll post a thread when I do my first part. It'll be a few weekends maybe. I won't have it till sometime next week....

Ahhhh, yes. The kit comes with hi-temp plugs for threaded holes, but you can put a bolt in one of those holes and hang the part from that bolt. Then no thread chasing, AND no missed spots.

We went through a spell while I was in the Navy where we powder coated everything we could unbolt to cut down on painting. At that time there was a clay product you could squish into threaded holes prior to powder coating and then just chip it out after the part was in the oven. It worked pretty slick and kept bolt threads from getting stuck to the holes.

It would be cool to have hole through the center of those hi-temp plugs.

You'll need to log in to post.
