I tempted fate by eating my first KFC double down right before going to the yard... I lucked out.

Try my best to not destroy stuff to get what I need. The 2 times I have sinned was cutting a rubber brake hose to get a full exhaust and a cluster bezel to pull an instrument cluster with less than 5 minutes till closing time.

If I see someone working on a car that i want to take something from, I will just walk up and ask them what they are going to take, and either help them if they want, wait, or take whatever i need if I can do it without getting in their way. It makes me mad when people destroy good parts too. Some stuff, eh, its not that big a deal, but sometimes its pretty annoying.

I usually go to the yard for hard to find stuff for common cars, and I usually find that it's been trashed by someone getting to something common.

Down here, most people know you by name if you're pulling parts from the same car. I've helped a good few people out in the yard, and no one snipes parts or pulls from the same car without asking.

Hell, I've been offered a job at my local yard a few times because I usually end up helping people out and getting them to buy more stuff. I'm the only guy I know of that they've let in the yard with a sawzall.

i've never been to a junkyard that charged an entrance fee.. and i don't think i'd ever go to any place that charges me for the privilege of buying stuff from them.

You probably saved someones life.

I can't understand why people would re-use junkyard brake hoses or lines.

They're not expensive and a jackass move like that can get you and others hurt.

Must not have any picknpulls in your neck of the woods. That said, I'm not going to disagree with you. The ones near my old home in Nevada were staffed entirely by methamphetamine addicts.

Around here it's a dollar. No big deal. And it helps keep the riff-raff out.

the local big pick-n-pull chain (Crazy Ray's) charges a $1 entrance fee.

The upside is that they use flat-rate pricing, and the prices are LOOOOOW.

e.g. complete longblock for $250 (or whatever). And that could be the longblock from an old civic, or an LS longblock, or a Jag V12. doesn't matter. Same price.

The $1, from what I've "heard" is to make sure you stop to sign the liability waiver, basically.
