Bear with me I'm kind of new at this. Koni yellows are 25% off right now and I'd like to buy them and get a sleeve coilover kit for them. I need help with a few things. What sleeve work with Koni's? stock strut housings with inserts up front and koni struts in the back. What size springs should i get? I have rates in mind but have no idea what dimensions I would need. And where is the best place to buy this stuff?

Groundcontrol.com has a coil over kit for the a1. I'm no help with spring rates for that car.
I do recommend the Koni Sports.
Your GTi looks awesome!
I ran 450/350 with a big rear bar and 350/500 with a big front bar. I liked the latter better, but both worked well but a little stiff for full time street duty.

I'm running 500lb front 600lb rear with custom damped Bilsteins and a handful of other goodies. Stiff on the street but does it's thing on the autox course.

Small world. I too am running 500F/600R but have never heard of anyone else running that particular combo. Mine are 6" front and 7" rear. I'm currently using old school NLA full body Koni SA fronts and custom valved Koni SA rears w/GC coilovers in a big front bar setup with extra caster. Oh, and upgraded front strut mounts or camber plates are also mandatory because you'd punch right through the stock pieces in no time as stock springs were something like 110F/90R. This setup is seriously quick for autocross, but not something I'd want to live with daily.

Lol Flogger - best thing about tried and true toys as there are lits of right was to make them fast. Running GC camber plates sideways for max positive castor. Have been pretty happy with the delrin bushings having replaced the rest of the factory rubbers...

Holy crap, that's an attractive car!
Check out one of the threads I posted some time back:
MK1 Rabbit Suspension Advice
I asked a ton of questions and got lots of good feedback.
Ground Control Coilover sleeves make the most sense if you plan on buying Koni Sports. Ground Control already has guidelines for what will work with the OEM strut housings and the car and they will walk you through options for that. You'll probably want to cut the large spring cup off of the OEM front housing. You can either cut it off and grind down the base of the cup until you leave just enough for the sleeve to rest on, or you can grind it off completely and weld a small ring in the same location to rest the sleeve on. I did the later. I'll try and post pics for you in a day or 2 once I can dig them out of the garage.
They are hard to find, but if you are running coilovers (especially with a high spring rate), you REALLY want to find a set of early MK1 front strut mounts because they are rebuildable with Fox or 944 Porsche bearing/rubber bushings. The late MK1 strut mounts are not rebuildable and they can fail in as few as 6 months. They are an awful design.
This thread on VW vortex has very comprehensive info on what you need to do a rebuild:
Early Strut Mounts
The top hats, etc. will cost you about $150 - $200 used when someone sells as set, but they are worth it.
Another option is raised strut tower mounts. If you aren't worried about SCCA rules and you just want to improve the car, you can run these:
Raised Strut Mounts
The advantage to the raised strut mount is you can lower the car and still keep your suspension travel. They also use cheap, readily available Audi 90 bearings and bushings.
I haven't gotten my car on the road yet, but I will be running 350f/450r with no front sway bar and a solid 24mm 16V Scirocco rear sway. I also have early strut mounts for it.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Looks like the konis were backordered for 6-8 weeks. I ended up going with bilestien sports and ground controls. Going to try 400f/300r with RSB for now. Didn't want to go much stiffer because I still drive it on the street a good bit. I already have early mounts of my car as well. I plan to autox this every month but I don't plan on being competetive. The car has a 1.8t swap so that puts me in SMF. I think?
That will be a good setup too. Should be a blast with the 1.8T! I'm sure you'll be in SM with that. In that case just have fun with it and don't worry too much about what class you land in.
