I am now planning to watch it again; beyond the cool cars Danes and Leguizamo were excellent iirc. Many custom movie cars don't really work for me, but a few I would daily drive with pleasure.
I will make my daughter watch, she is 11 and only knows of the references in Hot Fuzz. She absolutely hated Love Fool when I cranked it and sang along in the car.
I saw this as a teenager when I was visiting my cousin up in NY, years ago. Now I want to see it again for the cars lol

The proportions are messed up on those cars and they look terrible.
They're caricatures of themselves.
But what do I know, people bought Zimmers and Excaliburs for some reason too.

The funny thing is, the long overhangs look normal for American cars of the timeframe.
Picture that a Chevy Celebrity and a Chevy Cruze are identical in dimension except the Celebrity had a lot more overhang, making it something like 10" longer. And most of that length was wasted airspace.
The proportions look weird because they cut the roofs off. Somewhere I read that Hollywood loves convertibles because you can see the actors, so cutting EVERYTHING off above the belt line is the logical conclusion when making movie-specific vehicles.

Man, this movie. It was a cultural phenomenon in the late 90's! I was not a fan, but my wife was, because Leonardo DiCaprio. I did sit through it in HS senior year English class and at least once years later after I met my wife, and I always thought the cars were the most interesting part. They are definitely influenced by lowrider and Bōsōzoku culture for sure. That blue G-Body was always the one that stuck out the most to me.

I seriously need to sit down and watch this move. Good or bad, I've just gotta get it done. Like you, Tony, I think I watched at least some of it in English class in 10th grade. Maybe I'll go write a movie review/project car update about it this Summer.
