I've got my project 80 malibu with a 7.5 10 bolt and factory open diff with 2.41 gears
I've got an 89 Iroc with a 10 bolt, posi, and 2.73 gears.
I'm looking at an 01 S10 2wd with a 7.625 10 bolt open diff with 3.42 gears.

According to the data I've found both the Iroc and the malibu have 26 spline axles so I can swap the 2.73 posi into the malibu.
My question is, can I swap (or should I swap) the 3.42 gears out of the blazer into the Malibu with the camaro posi?

The Blazer will be donating it's Front and rear brakes to the malibu, The Iroc is donating it's steering gearbox, posi and fold down license plate (probably).
anything else the hive can think of that the donor cars should donate to the malibu?

I think that's the wrong series carrier for the 3.42 gears.

You will need the to keep the carrier w/ the 3.42 gears. Are the axle shafts the same length? Look on Rock auto. If the part numbers match for shafts, bearings etc, it should swap. What trans and tire size are you using? Do the math and watch your highway speed rpm. 3000 at 65mph gets old fast....

the best info I have found on swapping parts in 7.5 10 bolts is in H-body .com  its a site for monza's and vega's, IE;  which housing which gear sets and which axles too use where

IF YOU ARE MAKING over 300 HP , I say step up to an 8.5 at least but the easist  to mod is a ford because of avail. parts,  used.

This spreadsheet is a must when trying to find ratios and things for cars or bikes.

The part numbers can't match.  The Blazer should have 28 spline versus the camaro/malibu are 26 spline.
Transmission will eventually be a 200-4r when it gets rebuilt (still haven't done that yet).  Tires will be roughly stock diameter, 25.5" I believe.
Ideally I want 3.08 gears, but I'm trying to save $$ using donor vehicles to build the malibu.

I doubt the current setup is making 200hp.
The 8.5 is way too expensive to swap in and I'm not that into putting a Ford into my GM, plus that will still be $$ that I don't have

Did you look at H body . com yet. I am a huge fan of the 200r4 had one with a 455 buick in a 76 Skylark. with a 3.54 rear in OD it was in the 2.70's That's a big drop, take advantage of that and put all the gear you can in it UNLESS  you have to drive it 50 miles every day.  I work on restored Muscle Cars for a living ,IF it's not ALL Original , you may as well use the best part for the job. like most major parts of a car, brakes, steering ,gear box's, Axle housing's and gear sets  aren't really dodge, ford or chevy, but bendex ,spicer and hunderds of others that make stuff for everyone/ A C Spark plugs is also Champion , STARTED by Albert Champion. the List goes on.  but love your car.

I looked at H-body.org (it's not .com)
I'm a fan of the 200-4r as well because it is a much simpler swap than a 700, plus the gear ratios are better.
I used to sell parts for a living, including transmission parts.  There's just a lot of conflicting information about the carriers.
BTW, a 3.54 gear would be effectively reduced to a 2.37 gear with a 200-4r.  It's .67 overdrive gear.

Apparently there is a spacer to allow the 3.42 gear to work on the 2.73 posi carrier.
Guess that will be added to the shopping list.  $$$

That's why the Buick would only pull 5500 rpm in od, too much gear, too many people to let it out, that was a shade over 155 'cordin to mr.'s Stewart & warner. coulda used 3.70 or 4.10's and been quicker in the mountains.

I think mr Aero Dynamics had a hand in that too.
