Removing an ignition key tumbler with no key?

For my girl I have to get keys.  I can get the door locks out easily, but the ignition?

I'd love to ask the folks over at https://67-72chevytrucks.com/ but its been a couple weeks and they still haven't authorized my account, sooooo....

Do you actually need a key?  Most GMs from the 80's back would just turn without a key at this point.  I know my K30 does at least.

That's a good point, actually.  I haven't tried.

Maybe I'll find an old GM key and try it.  It would be my luck that that's one of the things that was replaced/restored

I think it was an episode of VGG on YouTube that Derek had a ring of old keys and just ran through the lot until he found one that worked.
