I remember the article I think from GRM? not too long about it and it looked pretty awesome. It had me hunting to see how much I could find a 996 with a blown motor for.

Besides the one in the article has anyone heard of anyone actually putting one together and running it?

I met a guy a few weeks ago who had a 74 911 / 350 with a Renegade Hybrids kit. It was a track car and made financial sense for him to take that route. I have yet to see anything newer than 89 with a non- Porsche swap though. He summed it up by saying he bought 350 hp for $1800.

There's a mid 90s 911 in the Houston area with what I think was a corvette ls1 wedged into the back. As far as I know, it made it to the show&shine night under its own power. It would take some digging, but I have a pic of it somewhere.

There were 2 at the NASA eagle canyons event last fall. The owners race most of he events in Texas. One was an older (84 ish) and one was the 996.they both really moved and both said the suspension tweaks were awesome they handled very well.

That's all I'm going to say is that I suggest you do your research. Find folks that have dealt with them and ask for feedback.

That looks really cool. And, I realize it may be an illusion, but it also looks like it would be seriously tail heavy.

Wonder what the porsche owners club thinks about stuff like that. To me its all about appreciating the car and as these things get older I think engine swaps make more sense

They seem to okay with it. I snapped the photos at the CVR/PCA Concours this morning. The black car on the end is the one with the swap.

My '89 951 has a LS1 in it...

Did you build it off a kit or just do your own thing?

Used the kit from Texas Performance Concepts.

I've heard nothing but good about these folks. What was your experience?

It was awesome. My factory turbo motor died and I called them to talk about putting in an LS1. I was going to do the work myself over the off season, but they quoted me such a stupidly low price to do it that I had my car on a truck to them 2 days later.

So they did all the heavy lifting as far as the swap went. All their parts are high quality and fit. They also refine things as time goes on. I'm about to buy their new fuel filter kit, it'll delete alot of extra fuel line I have now.

I've also been lusting after their new long tube headers.

So what is a "stupidly low price"? not that you did not necessarily score a deal they won't replicate

He charged me $3500 for the full install and $35 an hour for some other things that weren't part of a typical installation, like the oil cooler, etc.

Well worth it to have him do it IMO, my time is worth far more than that.

In reply to intrepid: Many think that going with the V8 adds weight. In most cases, it doesn't. If you use the all-aluminum LS series V8's, an early turbo (930) engine is about 180lbs. heavier, the 993TT engine is over 200lbs heavier, the 944 turbo engine is roughly 50lbs. heavier, the 928 V8's are all 200lbs or more in the plus over the LS, and a 2.7L six, a 944 NA, and a 996 NA are all about the same weight. Even a SBC is lighter in the rear of a 911 than a turbo Porsche engine with the same HP. So...it's not that bad at all.

My '83 944 has a LS1 (DBW) in it. Using the RH kit, I did all of the work myself (widebody/paint too) - may have had some times where I thought about tossing it, but am now glad I completed it. Very fun to drive on the autocross course - hope to make it to the track one day.

You gotta do something about your suspension. Maybe I'll hook you up with my stuff when I go with the Escort Cup stuff...

You'll need to log in to post.
