Gm is now requiring any dexos certified oil used during warranty period to be full synthetic. We thought our supplier was wrong and checked with gm. They will no longer warranty an engine unless it's full synthetic dexos certified.
It's a shakedown. It's a GM specification. GM charges $1000 per oil licensed and 36 cents a gallon to carry the DEXOS label. It's a way to guarantee GM income from oil changes even if they're not done at the dealer.
