Have there been any RWD hatchbacks made after about 1990 sold in the US? The only ones I can think of aren't "really" hatches: S13 240SX, Camaro, Foxbody Mustang, Mk III Supra.
As I type this out, only one comes to mind: the 318ti.

I really do not consider the Z3 Coupe a hatchback... but yes.. the 318ti and the C230 do qualify.. and might be the only ones

The clown shoes are closer to hatchbacks than the fastback hatchbacks though......
I think the benz and bimmer are the only two in this category. The benz has more power, but it weighs alot more than the bimmer.

So a Vega wasn't a hatchback? I always defined a hatch back by whether or not it had a hatch.
There is a difference between Fast Backs and hatch Backs.. regardless.. he was asking 90s. Not too many vegas were built in that time period

So a Pinto is a fastback now, as a comparison model? I always thought a hatchback had the "trunklid" hinged off the roof and fastbacks are a continuation of a swoopy bodyline with the trunklid hinged in the middle.

+1
I consider the back glass being integral with the trunklid = hatchback

Asininely picky. JMO.
Bug eye WRX and SAABaru cousin, although they were the 00's not the 90's, how about a Scoobie Outback Sport?
If BMW was a person, I'd smack them on the back of the head for not bringing the 1-series hatchback to the states.
Deep down they'd know it was deserved, but would still argue that the 318ti proved to them that a hatchback model was a no-go in the states. I wouldn't buy their story though, as most people with half a brain would understand that using a relatively under-powered, controversially styled derivative of an existing model wasn't going to sell in big numbers in the first friggin place.
For the record I like the 318ti, and almost bought one recently. I don't think the world at large shares my fandom though.
but not RWD Adrian...
My consideration of Hatchback vs fastback is where the hatch ends. On a fast Back it does NOT go all the way to bumper hight. On a hatchback it does. The 240sx, Foxbody, and Fbody cars do not have openings that go all the way down to the bumper.
Was the Alfa Milano ever offered in a hatcback? Wiki says it was made until '92; whether it was here in the states... IDK.
Porsch 944?

the 318ti was not even that big a seller in europe.. Personally I think the hatch is the prettiest of the 1 series cars... but really.. if BMW can sell the X6.. then it can afford to bring the 3 door 1 series here
Last RWD hatch ever was an '80s Starlet AFAIK...and I get the difference between a hatchback and a coupe where the hood and rear glass move together. A hatchback has a blunt back end and definitely no significant backward projection of sheet metal after the bottom of the back glass.

?
...But is also shorter than a wagon?
(edit: I should stop. I find these 'name games' to be a bit useless. A rose by any other name is still a rose...)
