Quick question for RX7 people- does anyone know the interior height, from floor to roof, without seat brackets, for the FB and FC RX7s?  Wondering which is taller overall, helmet space was tight in my caged FC and I'm kicking around some ideas so I'd love a comparison.

Don't know the specs--but I raced Spec7 back in the 1999 and 2000 seasons--1985 GSL.  Had a Kirkey seat and Autopower Cage.  I'm 6'6" and was comfortable.

post some pics of the cage, I have mine as tight as possible to provide the most headroom. I also bolt the seat to the floor so I can fit.

This is still in the planning phase, but would be a typical rally cage with overhead diagonals.  I've had stuff attack the floor too many times to want to just bolt straight to it, so assume a 1" tube underneath which gets attached to the sill and seam welded to the floor.

How tall are you?  Do you have some helmet space at the cage?  My previous FC had a pretty lousy cage and I had to tilt my head to avoid it, even though I'm only 5'11"

I had an old spec 7 with the Autopower cage and could never get a seat mounted in such a way that I wasn't hitting the cage with my helmet. I'm 5'10" is but have a 28-29" inseam which means I sit as far forward as my 5'3" wife. My biggest issue was getting my head away from the bar that is above the door. The top of the car is very narrow. By the by, my old car is looking for a home if you want to start with a rust free shell with a nicely running 12a. laugh

I'm 6'4" and what I have are bars under the floor with reinforcement plates that are parallel to each other and the seat bolts through the 1" square tube past the floor and into the seat.

I have no helmet space but you will be fine.

I also have extensive HDPE underneath the car so the floor is fine.

Jim rides every rally with no cushion on his seat. The seat is almost on the floor, but he has a tall torso and a large-shell Stilo, so that's the only way he fits. I'm actually a tad taller than Jim and use a cushion, seat up higher, and am close but ok regarding the roof diagonals.

I was over at Rob Pepper's place yesterday, and you know how big of a man he is. He actually cut out the floor of the 944 and dropped it down a bit (with HDPE underneath as well). Seems like it's not an issue for him.

Here’s what I got. I put the seat forward so I could measure about where your butt is with the seat in the driving position. My car has the factory sunroof I used the steel roof with the foam headliner.

Measuring from about 4” from the door, floor to roof is 39”. This part of the roof is not sunroof. A couple inches from the trans tunnel, floor to the roof is 40” and that part of the roof is sunroof.  The floor has the factory carpet plus padding so that’s probably another inch to the actual metal floor.

I’m 6 foot with a 34” inseam.
