Soon to be father in law has had a 78 saab 99 turbo sitting in the driveway for about 10 years. Last on the road in 2003 . Original issue was a no start condition due to an electrical issue that was never diagnosed. Now, 10 years later it is still sitting and showing some signs of rot. Car is original and pretty damn cool, being I believe the first U.S production car with a turbo....
Price is probably free, or close to it. Any reason not to bring it into the garage and poke around? I don't NEED another project but....
If your going to play with a 99 you should check out SaabRally.com
I'd love to have a 99 turbo (my first car was a 99GLs). I think they're cool cars and if it doesn't have too many problems I would say do it.
I started asking about SAAB's last year, then found Saabrally.com Now have a look whats in my sig
99 turbos are getting VERY rare. Parts can be somewhat difficult to find, but they're pretty easy to work on and a lot of newer parts can be retrofitted. I say do it!

Wasn't that a one year only car?
Unless it was a real clean and original condition car, I wouldn't hesitate to swap out the engine for the later 8 valve H engine, and megasquirt.

Definitely worth picking up.
Nowhere close to being the first us production Turbo car. Unless you mean Saab specifically then in that case I don't know.

Yeah, the Oldsmobile Turbo Jetfire was first in '62 and the turbo Corvairs followed shortly after. The 99 was indeed Saab's first turbo production car, though.
It was also one of only three available when it was introduced, the others being the Porsche 911 Turbo and the Mercedes 300SD.
Yes.You should save it.
I would love a Saab 99 Turbo
Buy it. 99 out of 100 no start issues on those cars start with someone spilling a cup of coffee down the key hole.
The ignition is between the seats.
... and you have to put up pictures.

I'd sure bring it home, if it was offered to me.
Saab is one of those bucket lists cars for me, just because they're so quirky and eclectic.
And if you don't want to, bring it to my place My EMS would love to make friends with it!
The short answer is YES, bring it home and mess around with it.
Very cool cars.

As if the others hadn't said it enough... you better bring this car home.
