That's only a few minutes from where I live. There is very little shoulder on the left hand side of I-70 in that area which makes it a bad place to break down.
If the car had only lasted a minute longer, he would've been able to limp off the exit and stop at the gas station in Big Pool.
This is tragic, Mr. Robinson did a lot of good for sick and disadvantaged kids in the area.
I'm in MD as well, nearer DC. "Batman" was in the news here fairly often and was obviously a good person. Also, even if your broken car is entirely out of the travel lanes, assume that someone in a Camry with all-but-nonexistent situational awareness will target fixate on it and drive directly into it. Therefore, be on the other side of the Armco barrier if there is one and position yourself BEFORE the car so there's no possibility it will hit you after it's struck by the Camry.

I used to live in LaVale, autocrossed at CBE for a long time, do I know you? I am down closer to DC now as well.

Good advice that is almost always forgotten. I had a friend killed on the side of the road and several others injured, but when I broke down earlier this year my first thought was to get out and take a look. Fortuately I checked my mirror first and saw I was about to get hit by a van and stayed seated until I was done sliding.
In reply to Apexcarver:
Defintely don't know you from anywhere other than GRM and coveting the Cobra in your avatar.
I used to do the occasional track day at Summit and auto-x in Winchester, VA.
I'm currently living in Hancock, so I'm closer to Cumberland than Frederick.

I'm with you. If it'd been me, I'd have tried like hell to make it safely onto the shoulder of the slow lane and just stayed strapped into the car after calling a tow truck.
With my meager mechanical skillset, I'm sure I couldn't diagnose the engine problem on the side of the highway after dark anyway.
That's so tragic!...I hope for their sake, that those kids who just met him witnessed as little of what actually happened as possible.
I had a really bad weekend, but this kinda puts it in perspective. This sucks. Sucks hard. Really f-ing sucks.
This one makes me sad. From what I can tell this guy cashed out his business and turned being Batman into his job. He made sick kids happy. That's one hell of a contribution to this world.
Is it wrong that I'm mad that we lost Lenny instead of one the countless useless "celebrities" the media obsesses over?
THe name of the Camry driver has not been released but this photo taken at the scene shows him resisting arrest.
We have had two members of our car club lose a leg to car-on-the-side-of-the-road hit by passing car incidents. One was Toly.
I didn't know there was a batman guy driving around suited up in a Lambo. Sounds like he was a person who was trying to make the world a little better by doing what he could for people who needed a little cheering up. RIP batman impersonator.

You know, if Batman is someone who sacrifices his own wealth, time and effort so that someone less fortunate can get a fair shake out of the world, then this guy was no impersonator. He was absolutely the damn Batman.
The world needs more Batmans and fewer Trumps claiming they're Batman. Sadly this event throws the balance off a little more.
Boy this is bummer news.
I once did a job in Hagerstown at a proposed Walmart site. Coldest jobsite I've ever been on. Once was enough for me. I had thought about stopping by the Antietam battlefield, but its started snowing early the next morning and I wanted none of that.
His younger brother should now don the robin costume. And avenge his brother whilst still helping the unfortunate. It would be fitting.
If the autocross you went to in Winchester was put on by Capital Driving Club, Apexcarver and I are organizers of that club.
