Here's something I've been wondering about CAM. So, the main rules are that it must be a RWD American car that remains street legal, right? Engine, drivetrain, suspension are basically open. So, could you convert a FWD American car to RWD and be legal? I'm talking RWD-swapped Ford Probe, Chevy Cavalier, Dodge Stratus, etc.
On second reading, it appears that engine and drivetrain "components" are unrestricted, but "method of attachment" is not mentioned as it is in the suspension section. Perhaps that rules out a longitudinal engine being installed in a Pontiac Sunfire, I don't profess to speak SCCA rulespeak.

Valid question. I definitely think it could be legal.
But you're walking a fine line and the nature of CAM is that the rule could be cleared up immediately with a mid season revision. Which is what happened to the Jeep bodied Corvette.
In reply to spacecadet :
True. Which brings up two questions:
1. Do I want a RWD Ford Probe enough to build it even if it gets banned from CAM? (Answer: probably yes. )
2. Jeep bodied Corvette, any pics of that? I need to know.

C5Z chassis and powertrain. This was the first time the car saw the light of day. It had been outlawed before it ever showed up 6 months prior.

Yeah thats the BAT listing when David sold it.
I've driven it and it's a friggin hoot.
I've been scheming to run my Merkur XR4Ti in CAM-T, with ballast (to get up to 3k min weight). Fits otherwise. Merkur is an American brand (Ford), sold in the US during the correct time period, RWD, etc. Whacky but theoretically possible.
Of note is the lack of Yoko A052 on the exclusion list since they started producing them at 7/32" tread depth.
In reply to spacecadet :
Okay, that's awesome. I can totally understand why it would get banned, but it's still totally awesome.

Getting them is going to be the biggest issue.
Brad from Tire Rack pointed out this morning that Global Time Attack has made them the spec tire.. so you're going to be fighting with all those guys for availability on the big sizes....

Are they a step above the RE-71R or Rival S 1.5 that seem to be at the top now? I watched a set of Yokos get used up in the first 2 hrs of an endurance race at COTA last weekend on a fully prepped racecar (AKA not camber challenged).
In reply to TXratti :
They're faster, but do not seem to like heat. That's what I was told and was my experience on them at Solo nationals.
They dont need heat in them to work and work REALLY well and put power down better than the RE71 and the BFG.
In reply to TXratti :
Maybe not a step above but just as good. The RE-71's only go up to 275 in 18's which is a huge killer for tons of people. The A052's are available in 295 and 315. I used 295/35-18 A052's this season and I'm very happy with them. The 295's run almost as wide as a 315 rival.
I'm torn between running in CAM-T with less than ideal weight distribution or staying in CAM-C with 300lbs of ballast. C has double the amount of competitors but damn if those new Camaro's aren't fast. A local guy in a 2018 Camaro 1LE has been beating my times running in B-stock and I'm usually top 10-15 in RAW and PAX with 100+ cars.
Those cars are crazy good and moving the SN95 was the right call even though all the old school guys are pissed. The Foxbody is the same car but already a little bit lighter and they don't complain about those.

They work when cold and work REALLY well and put power down better than the RE71 and the BFG.
People keep saying that but I can't confirm that. My fastest time of the day was usually on my last run in 90+ degree heat.

I've gotten that directly from Foley and he's done testing, just like Whitener.
The biggest reason I bought into what foley said was he's one of the only people I know who doesn't spray stones down at all and didn't buy into them getting slower at they would heat up. And yet he would religiously spray down yokohamas.
This is not to say you can't pickup time by improving the run. They don't fall off a cliff it seems.
In reply to spacecadet :
I don't know who those people are so maybe thier opinion means more than mine, lol.
I'm just saying I haven't hit a point where I said "dang the tires are too hot" and my times got slower. Even with two drivers running back to back. I don't spray.

Berk me! I just sold my damn Cobra partly because it sucked in CAM-C!!
