Yesterday I was at the same autocross as this guy (I think it's under new ownership). He ran a 32.xxx to my 36.xxx
If you think your car is quick, don't even think of challenging him. You won't win.
In reply to KyAllroad (Jeremy) :
It is under new ownership.
Marshall and KJ from the article are both friends.
As you said, It's absolutely bonkers to watch it run.
Marshall explained to me how he slalom'd the car one year at Nats, it's just holding the crazy speed(i think it was 70+mph that year at nats) and move the wheel back and forth and seeing if you hit any cones after the fact, because you can't actually see and react fast enough to the cones in the slalom, it's just muscle memory.

It's now local to me and has been a great addition to our club, really fun to watch. The biggest problem we have is not enough pavement for them to fully exploit the potential.
I know one thing, I do not poses the reaction times to handle that thing! Or the mental processing power. But I'd sure like to give it a try.
Lol its like watching a run in fast forward.

And here is Spoolpigeon drifting around in a C mod. (It needs new tires)

Proving you don't need a manual transmission to win.
side rant: it's not a car. It's a purpose built go kart. Hard for me to be impressed here, just because of what it is. Now if it was some unibody car, then sure, I'll flip out. This thing barely consistutes as a "car" or even "automobile", /rant.
I do like the cvt transmission.

This is also why Top Fuel Dragsters and Formula Cars are unimpressive.
Don't think of it as "not a car" think of it as the best answer to the question posed by the rules. What can be built based on the rules provided, like the challenge, but with no money limit...
Holy sheeeet that is crazy fast, like a full-scale r/c car.

I wouldn't say "unimpressive" as much as "doesn't interest me." I'm kinda sorta in the same boat as _. Formula 1 cars and Top Fuel Dragsters throw down some impressive performance numbers, but something about them just doesn't interest me. Maybe its that they're too hard to relate to. I don't know. But I'm more interested in 6- and 5-second doorslammers than 4- and 3-second rails.
My post was sarcasm. All of those things are extremely impressive.

My "Seen At The Autocross" yesterday, was someone in my area owns the infamous Andy Hollis "Tow Package" STS EF Civic, sans the "tow package", and brought it out to play. Still a darned impressive little car.

I figured, but I was just saying that I sort of agreed with _ but in a slightly different way.

Based on what you two are saying, don't bother going to Bonneville for Speed Week.
I love cars like this, as an engineer, just to see how fast you can go. Moreso when you can do your own engineering and find those answers.
Bonneville is definitely on my bucket list. I could geek out over those cars for a week straight.

I spent a lot of time looking at pics of that car recently.
Probably has something to do with why this is getting attached to our challenge car.

That's a really nice park bench... :)

haha it makes about as much 'static downforce' as a park bench so...
During the time the car/kart was in Southern California I was always impressed with the fact that it was not only fast but it was going to break. And when it did, the guy's would work through it and get it back in the event.
The article also mentions Stan, now no longer with us. But these are the guy's that we should all thank for the sheer entertainment and gumption that they bring to events that offer the the winner nothing more that bragging rites.
Not to mention very expensive used tires, given out for the asking, that I might have a couple of sets of!
Thanks for sharing the article! I miss seeing that car rip around the cones at Cal Club. Always fun to watch and if you were working course you paid a lot more attention when it was running lol.
The video in that article is insane!

No kidding! I got a similar feeling while watching the in-car footage during the Petit Le Mans--it's surreal because the prototypes were lapping at nearly twice the pace than I've ever driven that track.
