so im trying to help my brother sell his beloved trans am. this is the basic listing i built: http://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/3419057302.html

so far, i have it listed on moparts, ebay local classifieds, racing junk, mautofied, forabodiesonly.com, ls1tech.com, fusllsizechevy.com, craigslist, pro-touring.com.

anywhere elso i should list it? i need to get his car gone so i can get mine in that garage and start cutting it apart....

also, should i do anything different with the add? i tried to make it descriptinve, and take good pictures.

as a bonus, he told me if i get his asking price, hell give me 500 bucks. which will buy the clutch i need....

so, car flipping.selling/dumping gurus, what would you do differently?

Fix the misspellings, use proper capitalization. Will make it more professional

When listing stuff off like that I prefer bulleted lists. Not that half the people will read them anyways, but it looks nicer and is easier to navigate for those who do.

Yeah, there are waay too many spelling errors in the add. Also, ditch the entire section about all the hoops buyers have to jump though to be worthy of a reply. Its annoying when people put that in an ad, and it makes me wonder if Id even want to deal with them at all. Also, the last section would be much better if it said something like "$6000 obo, payment must be in cash. If you are interested come test drive the car and make an offer". Sellers who are selling something fairly unremarkable and dont want their time wasted make me feel like I should look for a different car whose owner has time to sell it.

Try taking better pictures. For example, the first picture doesn't have the whole car in the shot and has a ton of background in it. Get down lower and take a picture so the car fills the whole frame but don't cut out parts of the car.

I hate to keep beating the same dead horse, but there's actually a chance most of the scammers will skip the ad if you clean up the spelling & punctuation. You want to sell to a rich guy? Write like one.

Good luck with the sale, looks like that could be a really nice car with a little work.

Don't tell people about the poower steering. Is brad a nail or a person? origonally? Is that the thing where you fold paper or the one one where you are from Oregon? Paymets? WTF?

Seriously - run a spell checker and make some attempt to manipulate the berkeleying shift key before you "axe fo hep". Maybe read it just once, all the way thru before you post it to a message board asking "what could I poossibly do to make my ad a little butter"

Nice car, BTW. Good luck with the sale you lazy bastard.

Seems high for the mileage/condition.

Seems about the right price for age/condition/mileage. I still haven't found out what makes these things price out like they are dipped in gold.

Fix the obvious grammar. TOO MANY PICTURES of "nothing" or it is a near duplicate picture.

Did I mention too many pictures? If not, there are TOO MANY PICTURES.

Biggest downfall, automatic and one that is ready to fail soon. In 150-160k 4L60's all fail, no matter the treatment it has received.

Also, it appears there is another ad for the same car, at least it looks like the same car, with the same price, and lots of words spelled wrong, its better to just have one post rather than several, it makes you wonder if one or both is a scam.

FYI 6K is not really a high dollar car any more. Hell try to find a 6K car on a dealer lot these days will be a challenge. I was expecting something like this when I saw this thread.

http://www.dupontregistry.com/autos/Search/DRauSearchDetails.aspx?itemid=1495938

BTW I think 6K for that car is a fair price considering the millage and the condition that it appears to be in.

To bad the millage is not lower. Those are going to do nothing but appreciate in value as time moves on.

Hell, if it were a 6sp I would probably buy it......pewter is a very sexy color on those cars.

This is coming from someone who still says the only true t/a colors are white w/blue.....

Craigslist is probably your best bet. If you have it listed at $6k, you might get a taker at $5k. I would suggest autotrader, but I doubt that anyone would be willing to drive too far for that car at near retail prices.

More than anything, I have to say that an 8k or so WS6 is considered high dollar around here, is hilarious to me.

If it were listed at 6k around me, he'd sit on it for a year or get 4k out of it.....the worst thing it has going for it is the auto, might be able to put a "Drag racer" theme to your listing......as it will either be one of them or a highschool age girl who buys it.

I think its somewhat amusing that people think they need to do all this for craigslist.
First and foremost, its important that you understand that there are 2 kinds of people with regards to your car: 1) people that are interested in it, know what it is, and are willing to pay something close to what you are asking (which is maybe a bit more than the autos I've seen are selling for, but pretty close anyway), and 2) tire kickers, people that want to waste your time and jew you down, people who have a friend that might be interested, people that definitely for sure want it but need to make payments/get financing/go rob an old lady/want to trade a gun and a 4 wheeler, etc.
To further this point, let me point that that if I was in the market for a WS6 I'd be checking craigslist daily or at least a few times a week, and I'd be typing "ws6" into the search box, obvious. But if I really wanted one, I'd probably also type in things like "firebird," "transam," and "camaro," so that even if you had done a TERRIBLE job listing it, I'd still find it. And if I really wanted a WS6 and was in the mood to pay $6k for it, I'd call someone who had an ad without photos, and I'd go look at it.

If I was anyone in group number 2, I wouldn't do those things. I'd just look on craigslist, see it, think 'gee nice car,' and hit the reply button with stupid questions, whether you already typed the answers in your original ad or not.

So the point is that you don't need to "pitch" a car like that to people. At $6k youre above what a member of the general public will pay for that car on a whim. Youre selling to people that know what they want and what its worth and have the ability to pay for it. Just give them a few pictures of the car showing the exterior (2 3/4 shots, one from drivers front, one from passenger rear, cover the whole car), 1 of interior, and 1 of engine bay. This shows what you have to offer without being annoying, hard to browse on one's phone, and/or overwhelming. Guess what? Also less work for you! Give them a quick run down of the car. Miles, overall condition including anything obviously broken, but can also include anything significant that received recent replacement, location and your contact information. May also want to add if price is OBO or is Firm as this is relatively important to many buyers, and title status (if its free and clear, R title, or lien encumbered and you don't have titled on hand). If someone is interested and they need more info they will call! No one that is ready to buy that car is gonna say "Oh he didn't say if the windows were tinted and if the alternator was replacing in the past year so I'm out."

Now, having said that, if you just put that you have a 01 trans am for sale, you may lose out on people that just googled ws6, and you may lose out on people that are just frustrated from searching so much and are tired of emailing everyone with a crappy ad for a firebird because they are looking for a ws6. So make a good ad, but be aware that a good ad is quick and easy for you to make and gives a REALISTIC buyer the information they need to move forward.
And no matter what you put at the bottom of your ad, you will still get spam if you put it in craigslist (nearly guaranteed), and you will still get a lot of people that ask if its still for sale. Honestly, I deal on craigslist a lot and so many people put "don't ask me if its still for sale" and then forget to take down the ad, so I email or call them asking if I can come by and look at it tonight then learn its been sold for a period of time, that I often do incorporate the question of whether or not the item is still available for purchase into my initial contact.

Its a small price to pay for the ability to post free classified ads, viewable to thousands of local people for free.

I have a jewish friend. I say it with an A on the end. etc. Its ok, this is the internet. Its ok to be exposed to people with different views and beliefs and sensibilities.

I won't ever ask you to be ok with saying it, but I don't think its too much to ask you to be ok with reading it.

If you don't mean to be the PC police then just be cool and keep cruising. Or, if it would make you feel better, I'm jewish. so its cool.

There are also people looking for a car with numerous examples for sale, who dont reply to posts where the seller rants for most of the most about all the hoops you have to jump though to be considered as a potential buyer, and how cheap they are selling the overpriced car for, how much they dont want their time wasted, etc. Its important to just give the information people want to know and leave the rants out if you want to make an appealing for sale post.

Yeah, I just didn't get it for a minute when I read the header and then he was talking about a $6K car. High dollar? No, chump change.

I agree that good pictures and a literate description will help sell any car.

People who go looking for offence where none was intended bother me much more than non-PC people.

PC is really just trying to pick a turd up from the clean end as far as I am concerned.
