buddy of mine offered me a mid to late 1990's volvo 850 turbo. he wanted over a grand and now its down to chump change.
Here is what it is. Grey exterior, black leather interior. 130,000 miles. some rust by the rear wheel wells, some minor front end trim needed. Looks pretty ok.
Needs a battery and a steering rack seal/seals? and front brake pads.
I have a good DD but was wondering if this had challenge potential or worth getting and flippping?
Ideas?
but why? easy/ cheap to hop up and make quick?
whats the logic here? explain. teach me

Yes, cheap to hop up, quick, fun. Is it a wagon? If so it gets double awesome points.

5 cylinder turbo noises, is the logic.
Because volvo turbos are god's gift to man. I mean it isn't as awesome as the RWD ones.
5 cyl boost beast, what else need be said? one of my buddys used to autox an 850 and everybody and their rx7 used to make fun of him until he got a better time than them
Look at your local prices to see if it's flippable. I suspect it's not, their prices are way down, and that's why he's goign to let it go for chump change, because he can't get real money for it.
As for challenge potential, it's got it. They can fairly easily be made to go fast as stink. The automatic its most like got will limit your performance, converting to manual eats into the budget. But all it all, it's quite doable. The handling of the car is not abysmal, but it's no autocross rocket either. But again, it's easily redneck improved. Most of the chassis braces sold for the car are nothing more than painted conduit.
Now if you find the letter R on this 850, or T-5....
it is a wagon
it is FWD
ill be checking it out friday most likely

Here are some helpful links I kept from when I owned a '95 Volvo 850 wagon.
I had mine from 110k to 160k and it was wonderful. I sold it to my brother just a couple of months ago and it is still going strong.

Mine had a slow leak in the AC and would require a fresh can of r134a about twice a summer. That seemed easier than the repair. This link will take you to the 23 page guide on how to replace the evap.

If you do buy it, make sure you have torx bits because everything (and I do mean everything) has a torx head.
I had torx in socket style as well as screwdriver style and never once had any trouble using these.

Here's your chance to have a grand time at someone else's expense: i.e., who HASN'T dissed a Volvo at some time in his/her/its life and lived to eat the words?
I know I have, and as anyone who knows me knows, I hardly EVER make misteaks...
