When I moved up here I gave up working on my own cars. I just pay a small local guy who has spent his whole life breaking his knuckles on rust. Sure it costs money but it saves me so much frustration.
I'll work on project or fun cars but not dailies.
As tite as I am, I too only work on toys. In fact now that I have partners with the Jaguar I only work on that when they are around.
Well, I'll scrape and clean, do the dull boring stuff. But that's the limit. It's just so much more fun doing stuff together. That and rolling the car around on the rotisserie is almost too much by myself. I just feel safer when I control one end of the car and someone else has the other.
I would spend the 1k and spend a weekend slowing the rust down. I think the market will come down quite a bit.
Thanks guys. I think I'll fix the leaks and the brakes( they're not good). It does the early LS piston slap on cold startup but it goes away no harm no foul.
I'm not going to do the intake manifold gaskets. When it's really cold outside they shrink and it'll miss until the engine heats up enough to expand the gaskets back to somewhat seal. Fuel trims go super wonky then but hey. It's a beater
I ask myself this question all the time. Anyway, I say this is not the time to be buying vehicles new or used. I would wait as long as I could. Granted, I just bought two 4 months ago, but prices are even dumber now. I could make a profit on both right now based on prices out there on dealer sites.
Took big booty Judy to the mechanic. $800 all in and rear brakes are functional and oil leaks are stopped. She lives to fight another winter.
