Yes. The Street Edition was one of the "special edition" Focuses that Ford produced in 2000 and 2001. It is an SE with a special trim package (inside and out) and a "euro" suspension which I have comp[letely replaced

My '00 Intrepid R/T went to the track once. Ran a 16 flat with it. With a couple more passes I think I could get the 15.9 I was looking for. It does good for gas mileage, highway cruising, and even some fun on the back roads. It's not a 14 second car.

What about a WRX wagon and swap over the trim from an Impreza Outback Sport? You would need to move the intercooler to the front to swap the flat hood on. Hood scoops kill the sleeper look. Some black radiator paint would hide the FMIC nicely.

Or maybe the Saabaru version and get a nice interior? Still would need to swap the Outback Sport bits over for sleeper duty. The Saab version is a bit sporty.

I got one o dem turbo caravans. They're cool. Mine got 27mpg avg too (5spd).

As for intrepids, i had one that was a pretty quick car after mods. I could roll race non-pi 4.6 stangs unless they had major mods. Granted those arent fast cars either but for a smaller engine in a bigger car it did alright. Ran a little slower from a roll than a stock PI 4.6. And of course raced lots of other stuff like 3.0 maximas, 3.0 eclipses, is 250s, the like. Only sleepier thing that beat me was a 6th gen accord sedan. The rest of the losses were to non-sleeper vehicles. lol

I dont necessarily recommend one though unless you want to make a point with it.

These are all of the same car at different stages in life. Last i heard it's around the 800hp mark. Stupid, excessive, and GLORIOUS.

For sleeper mode, slap some diamond racing steelies on it, keep the stock bodywork, and run an exhaust cutout on a switch.

That Protege can be made into a nasty sleeper, especially the old ones. All the factory GpA gofast bits bolt right in. I'm not an unbiased reviewer however...I have about 5 grand tied up in my AWD GTR swapped 2650 lb ~320hp@23psi Protege grocerygetter. I lurve it beyond all reason.. The only real trouble spot, aside from the boring looks, is the gearbox but the awd cars are hard to find anyhow, so get a normal frontdriver, the fwd cars don't break thier gearboxes as often.

If you want something that is faster than a neon to START with, some of the ideas posted arent going to work.. like.. most of them.

a v6/5spd 626 is a good option. It'll hang with sohc neon or beat it, stock for stock.

The ~93-98 or whatever 3.0 Camry is a great idea IF you find a 5spd one. Ive been working on one of these a lot lately and with a 5spd it'd be a great car, and i mean great in all seriousness.

A 3.0 v6/5spd FWD dodge is a good car too. The shadows will run 15.0, one guy ran 14.6 stock. The daytona or lebaron will run high 15s stock.

A little plug for my car, my 01 sentra is a bit of a sleeper. It has the SR20 that the legendary SE-R did, although in a slightly heavier car. I redline at 80 in 3rd gear, and its a four door, but without the dressing up of the later SE-R cars. Save for the six-spoke wheels and spoiler, it looks like just another sentra. I doubt it's a 14 second car, but with some work I wouldn't doubt it's impossible. If that car had an LSD it would be freakin perfect.

I saw (on youtube, anyway) a VQ35 swapped SE-R run a 12.9 with slicks and spray. Plus they sound unholy. From what I've heard, all you really need is a set of Altima mounts, as the engine bolts up to the existing six speed in the newer SE-Rs.

They're lucky to run 15.9, and i mean lucky. They never came with the 3.0 and 5spd in that body style, which is what kills it. They arent faster than a lightly modded sohc neon.

The sr20 sentra isnt either.

Lots of the stuff in this thread could be MADE faster than the stockish neon, so it really all comes down to how much work you want to do to beat the neon. If you dont want to do ANY work to beat it then only a handful of these suggestions actually work.

As of right now I think I am going to look for a 5 speed V6 Camery...626...or a contour. My second choice would be the Protege/Escort...and fix up the BP or turbo it...or put in a v6. The advantage with the Camary or the 626 is the ride and creature comforts for the DD part.

I need to do a lot more research. I like the contour a lot...but I dont know how much go fast parts are out there for them. The 626 and Camary are so generic that no one would expect them...but again I dont know how much go fast parts.

I think the protege/Escort have a little more support...but like I said...I need to do more research....

Easy. GS wheels (or better yet steelies and hubcaps), swap some body panels or a bumper that are different colors, and lose the spoiler. Then from the outside it's just a crappy old econobox that could've been an awesome AWD turbo monster.

The turbo minivan idea is also insanely appealing to me, because I think I'm the one person on the Earth who actually likes minivans.

I thought that too...I think the turbo windstar or villager would be the ultimate sleeper ride. Then get the interior up to speed and a litlte more modern. hahaha.

I just think that might be above my pay grade for my first attempt at a sleeper. The Windstar had the same v6 the Mustang did I think...and the Supercharged T-birds of the mid 90's...but I dont think there is room under the hood to really put a turbo or anything on without a ton fo fabrication etc...

Contour with a 3.0? hmmmm....dirt cheep....time to hit another message board and do some research...

yeah...I had thought of the SHO-Wagon...the problem to me is the engine in the SHO. So unique...parts getting harder and pricier to find...etc etc etc...

using the bubble looking Taurus wagon was kind of my first thought...but there is really nothing that is even remotely easy...that engine and tranny combo is basically helpless i think...lol

TRD actually sold a supercharger kit for the 1MZ-FE. The Camry is a decent idea, but the first generation Siennas aren't too heavy either. A supercharged Previa can also be fast, but those are a rather high death risk.
