70 yesterday, 17 this morning, 50 tomorrow - gotta love Kansas weather
Sandy Eggo had the opposite problem, the weather never changed for weeks on end, sometimes months! I loved it!

I want to see current pictures of you on skis, ice skates, and snowboards.
I like snow and am disappointed when we don't get any but don't claim it's all peaches and cream. We know how many of you move south to get away from the cold so you can bake in our heat.
While you are cooped up in the house watching ball games, we are still playing with cars. Our 2023 autocross season started last week.

Bump those temps by about 5 degrees and that's us a bit farther south in OKC. And I forgot to switch the AC back to the heat last night, so it was about 61 in here when I woke up this morning.
"I WAS IN THE POOL!"
The over reaction is driven by liability. I'm on a school board. We close quick even with the hint of bad weather due to not wanting to have to deal with a law suit from little jimmy's parents.

Makes sense.
I've fought my way during heavy snow days and at 8:00 pm I was making my last drop.
One driver was out until 1:00 am but he got stuck and then lost and stuck and lost again.
Our office is still without power from Wednesday night. Best estimate for restoration is Sunday some time. Here in South Eastern Michigan we received no snow (by me) just ice. Tore up the trees in my yard something awful and one big branch fell on the hood of my car. Weather is predicting another wind/ice event to roll through here this coming Monday.

so fluffy.
Im down here in "shorts 98% of the time" Florida tending to my tropical plants that are enjoying life outside. Our growing season has kicked off already.
In reply to TJL (Forum Supporter) :
We don't stop growing. My lemon tree has already bloomed. ( grow lights, indoors) ;-)

What do you think changed the mindset? I graduated high school in 2000 and remember getting reprimanded for not being able to make it to work in my 300ZX at 17 in similar weather. Walking to finals in college my freshman year through 12" of snow.
This isn't mean to be some political gotcha, I'm legitimately curious what changed that stuff we dealt as no big as kids is now some cataclysmic endeavor.
In reply to z31maniac :
It's not political. We, as a school, want to keep out insurers happy. They want us to limit all forms of risk.
we just started to allow kids to sled at our school. The rules and waivers required are absolutely crazy. But we did it.

Yeah, I literally said that. And I've also seen you dragging the EV snarkieness into other threads. So I realize my honest question wont be answered.

Must not work for the local community college. I went off and on for the better part of a decade. 1. One day was called off for severe weather. There were ice and snow storms I braved that I should have died in.
It's not the meteorologist's job to sensationalize the weather. Just state the facts as well as you can. State your predictions as well as you can. You should be able to close schools based on that. No one needs "OMGWTFBBQ! PORKCHOP SANDWICHES!"
I'm a pilot. I have to read the DUATS (weather info supplied by the FAA.) I decide if it's safe to proceed. And when I disregard all that I've learned as a pilot, and Buddy Holly my ass into a frozen cornfield? That's on me, too.
Skip the porkchops and just tell me what you know, weatherman.
Well tomorrow promises to be interesting.
It will start out with rain turning to snow after it gives the roads a nice ice layer.
Then we are due for some real snow on Friday. Oh and a healthy dollop of wind as frosting on the cake.
We are already the 7th snowiest year on record and the next few days might move us up to the #6 spot!!!!!!
7 feet of snow so far. Think we'll hit 8' before winter is over?
We're having a near record year here too. 662" so far and still plenty more in the forecast. I think our record though is over 800" so plenty of room to spare from the record.

Eeek! The Pittsburgh winter has been quite snow free this year. I've not needed my snowblower so far!
Same in eastern NJ, just south of NYC. It's just enough warmer than further North that snow will miss us. Best guess, our last foot+ snow event was 12 years ago. Last winter, I used my little snow thrower once. My friends and I have only skipped a handful of weekends of mountain biking this winter and I've managed quite a few quick motorcycle rides as well.
