Oh snap.
Firstly, Welcome to the madhouse Bill.
Secondly, thanks for the inside info, glad to hear some attempt was made to match the cars up.
I am interested in watching the show, when does it start on the box?
Hope you hang around to see what the nutcases in here are capable of.
Have you heard of the Grassroots Challenge?

Thanks for the welcome.
Yes Steve I am familiar with it. I have done one session at the NASA school at VIR and truly love any type of roadracing or autocrossing, even though I suck at it.
The first show airs Feb. 22, right after the NASCAR truck race (that is Daytona 500 weekend).
There was some sandbagging as there is with any race I have ever been involved in, but that showed up pretty quick when the flag dropped. By the end of the session, it was a very evenly matched final and driver skills did help decide the outcome.
No matter what section or segment of the hobby you participate in, sometimes you get tunnel vision thinking your type/model/year/brand/etc car is the only one out there. It was great to see, in my case, the mixture of cars compete and see how little I really knew about not only the cars but the car owners too. We all love cars, and are partial to our style. So it was great to see, that even we did not agree with their tastes they were just as passionate as we were.
I nor anyone has seen the final cut on the shows, so don't really know what to expect as far as how it edits out, but regardless of how stupid I/we look, just know that it was a blast and the racing was what you see, and was all real.
So were the "non-redneck" cars we well sorted as the Pro Touring stuff which showed up?
I look forward to the show, I find anything bringing more car culture to the screen to be a positive.
I will look out for next season's tests , maybe my challenger can get a look in. $2012 vs $250K sounds about fair to me
(PS, double spacing will give you a fresh paragraph)
Wow. First of all, welcome, Bill!
I was born in FL, but grew up in NC. Yeah, I know what finding a Mason Jar means.
Thanks for chiming in..I have to say, though...my career is TV. What happens at the shoot isn't very often what appears in the show these days. The way the thing is edited can make a block party look like a riot. I'm wishing you well during the 'post production' process..and begging that you'll share some pics after the gag order ends (once the show premieres, I'm guessing)!

yes. maybe more so in some cases. There was a treadwear/tire rule so that keeps the playing field more equal. No matter how prepared a car is, changing to a real street tire can be a huge equalizer, import or domestic.
Guys, this show could go in so many directions once it is a hit, it isn't even funny.
assiesmg, I love your idea of a price limit on builds and that would be a great idea for the producers to look at. that could be a season itself.
There are some pictures floating around, you can like a page on fb if you are on fb that is R U faster than a redneck. In fact there are two pages with the same name. Some of us frequent both. :)
Well, shoot. Now I have to give it a shot.
Thanks for popping by, Bill.

OK, Not sure how to properly post a picture, I am the old guy...haha
Here is a photo shoot we did after filming the show. Four of your Redneck drivers, making "Octane".
Hotlinked for extra octane.
Welcome Bill! Ah high octane just like grandpa use to make
I hope the show is a success. It sounds like it will be a real fun watch.
Now y'all know what it means to find a Mason Jar!

Nah, I wouldn't call that redneck, its a modern day shelby cobra or sunbeam tiger.....it just made sense.

Funny you would ask because something similar happened during the taping. Remind me to tell you what happened if it doesn't make the show.
My personal thoughts are he should be on our side, either way, IMO that would be a very fun car.
if i was in the states i would have begged to be on that show. it seriously looks like a hoot Bill. a total freaking hoot

It really was fun. Yes, there was competition, yes, we all were there to win, yes there was bantering back and forth, but in the end, everyone on both sides had a blast. As I said earlier, I think both sides learned a lot about the other genre of cars, who knows, there may be converts both ways..haha
BTW, thanks Fast Eddie for the picture, I am not used to this type forum software. How do you watch/subscribe to a thread?

Looking forward to watching the show. I was at the kart track at CMP one day that they were filming, and I have been waiting to see when it would air.

Hey guys,
I found this thread and thought I would jump in and try to clear up some of the misconceptions about the show.
First, I am one of the rednecks on the show. Second, I have been a redneck (not a hick, but a redneck) all my life. The word may mean different things to different people, but I have said more than once in my life, "Hey Yall, watch this!"
I am from Georgia, but live in Tennessee now, so I think that qualifies me as a true southern redneck. I don't live in a double wide, but I do love to go to Bristol and can put my hands on a mason jar if you know what I mean.
That said, the show is for real. It was real racing, no jokes, no games and no do overs. We were paired with pretty equal cars for the most part and the results were the results. The spinout you see in the promo (Blue Fairlane).....that was me, and yes, filmed as it happened, during my race. No set up for TV stuff, we gave them plenty without having to fake anything.
There is some really funny stuff that we did, just as rednecks do in real life. A lot was done after hours with no cameras running but that is a whole nother story. We did live at the track for about two weeks, and had a blast but when you put that many buddies together for that long, you always see some misbehavior, that is just human nature.
I think if you watch the show, you will see several things, but the most important is that you can mix the musclecars with modern cars and have a great mix of results. Remember, we are all car guys, but in the end, we all love cars, regardless of our age or bank accounts. I am a blue collar guy myself, builder by trade and I work on my own car. One back story I will share, I own the 72 charger. On Sunday before the filming started, we broke a pin in the camshaft and bent 12 valves. We tore the motor apart between filming, rebuilt it from the heads up and then raced it later in the week. Yeah, rebuilt it in the sand and dirt and then raced it. In fact, it is still running now and I don't plan to tear it back down for now.
So, watch the show and keep in mind regardless of the outcome, that was truly how it worked out. Hopefully there will be a second and third season and if there is, the producers will be looking for others to compete. Keep an eye out on the forums for their call, and who knows, maybe you will get the chance to see if you are faster than a Redneck.
I can't go into the particulars of the show, you will have to watch it, but I will keep an eye on this thread and answer any questions I can.

I was a part of this show and as an import driver I can say that your are dead wrong about being evenly matched. Although there were a few imports that were evenly matched 90% were not. They did however match up imports that had no chance of winning with muscle cars that weren't that tough. And when an import with potential to win came up they definitely up'd the muscle car as well, so in that aspect yes they were evenly matched. But to say that a 600whp 3200lb camaro on 355's with 8piston brakes on a modern suspension is equal to a 320whp sti on 255's & coilovers is hysterical. 320 vs. 600 on a rolling start there's no way! On top of that to say that it came down to driver..... Maybe in those aforementioned cars but mostly car. I know Finch is a good driver in the Good Guys series and all but I'll out drive him in hid own car given the opportunity.
with that said the show was a blast but it was definitely apples vs oranges (prepped vs. not prepped) in most cases. I had a blast and it was my first time on a road course but Ken Squires himself gave me good reviews and Kevin King from Year One offered me a great deal after the racing was through.
Coming to this thread late - looking forward to seeing this air! BTW, if you need a redneck-engineered junkyard hypercar dual engine Ford Escort for season 2, give me a call ;-)
Here, just watch my Back 40 mix instead. Its probably more entertaining. I know many of you have already enjoyed it.

I want to bump this old thread because the show is nearing its first run.
Based on the commercial you can see that the 'Muscle Cars' had major revisions to the suspension. Those old cars just don't move like that without a complete overhaul. This being 'Merica!' and the majority of Speed (AKA Nascar Vision) watchers probably wouldn't accept any sort of fair play.
I've watched people make Evo's handle like a Buick and I've watched a 24 Hours of Lemons Dodge Stratus have faster laps than an Integra GSR.
Anything can be fast with the right amount of money put in to it. No one knows this better than the members of this forum. But let's not kid ourselves to thinking that ANY car made in the 60's or 70's could compete with even a modest E36 BMW without a substantial amount of money.
This magazine did a comparison between a Honda Odyssey and some old 60's Supercars. Guess which one won?
I have owned everything from muscle car to rally car to pure sports car to off-road toys. This show will probably do nothing more than perpetuate the idea that people who drive M3's don't like 69 Yenko Camaro's or that anything with a 4 cylinder doesn't stand a chance against a V8.
I will watch but I will probably just get annoyed and have to explain to my very car ignorant friends why that show isn't fair. Just a guess, but an educated one.
