I got a call yesterday afternoon from the parks and rec director. They have completed the process and an offer was made to and accepted by their leading candidate. I was the alternate. It's bittersweet to know that I came so far and didn't get it. I'm happy knowing that I was so highly considered. I'm sad that I have to face reality and figure out what to do now.

FWIW, I've been in similar position twice and ended up with the job after a month or so. In one case the guy they hired punched out a co-worker. I was called that afternoon.
