After finding the Dart's fuel tank was full of rust, I decided to buy a new one. And as long as I have a bright, shiny, new fuel tank that has no gas fumes in it, I thought I'd weld a Wal-Mart bread pan sump to it. (Well, I say "I", but I got a bit of help from a friend who knows how to TIG to finish the job up after my effort with a MIG had some minor leaks.) Now, how to keep the welds and other work from rusting? I've seen gas tank liner paints, but they are marked "not for use with ethanol", and that's something I might want to try. I talked to an electroplating place and they didn't think that would work either. What do you recommend?

I have about 7 years of ethanol exposure to the POR-15 tank liner with zero failures in my Fiat

Actually I have done 10 tanks with POR-15 over the last 5 years. All are holding up well.

I switched to the Caswell epoxy system recently which is listed as ok with Ethanol. More expensive but catalyzed so more durable.

Thanks, I'll look at both and see what the price is. Sounds like a pretty good recommendation for both, and yes, the catalyzed option does sound like a plus.

Caswell is the way to go. It holds up to everything i've thrown at it.

Thanks everyone - I've got some Caswell epoxy on order.
