Well, my local news outlet's story on the show says Mazda's reveal is "Rumored to be a hardtop MX5". That's as good as official, right? I mean, they can't just go putting false rumors on the internet to generate interest, can they?
Also rumored (per whatever their source is) is an updated GT-R from Nissan.

I am half expecting to see to a CX-9 replacement. Then, after the "Big Reveal," I expect to see 5 pages of bitching here about marketing hype and how ugly it is.
Revealing a CX-9 replacement before the freshly reworked 2016 CX-9 even hits showrooms would definitely be a surprising move!

I guess that shows how closely I have been paying attention to new CUV introductions.
I think an ND PRHT or coupe would be great. I still won't be surprised if the are introducing something more mainstream.
Hope the CX9 is a success like the CX5, and Mazda can keep building Miatas and maybe bring us a brawnier sports car again. I'll probably shop it once we're looking for a more spacious replacement for our 3 hatch. Too bad no Mazda6 wagon or Mazda5 nowadays.

I am sorta hoping to see a CX-7 as I will be in the market for a fun as possible to drive vehicle of that ilk in about 2 years. I suspect the CX-9 will be a bit too large for me. (Ok ... Fire away.)
I suspect it's the new CX-11 3/4-ton SUV, with a rotary engine in the front AND in the back. It will be the only 3/4 ton SUV with a towing capacity under 1000lbs.

"Blowing the lid off" is only part of the teaser. It was accompanied by some origami. Subtle.
Did you guys forget the invitation that Keith posted? Something is going to get it's lid blown off. Unless they're putting an ejection seat in a CUV, this HAS to have something to do with a car that usually has a top not having one, or a car without a top that gets one.
And just making sure that everyone saw this, you can follow along on your own:

"planetary wankel". Someone needs to sketch this out.
Maybe it's a Mazda Solara, I mean, 2-door Mazda6 'vert.
Planetary wankel sounds like something a know-nothing salesperson would call a turbocharger.
It's going to be a convertible GTR..

Is it not time for a convertible wankel powered sports car? I mean, if the Rotards of the world are not kept fed, who knows what could happen? Those guys are like Zombies

And what folds up like origami? A power retractible hard top.
Of course it's going to be the PRHT. And that makes me very happy. Mazda probably wants to get it out there before the Fiat 124 shows up with one.
My dream is that it is a 6 wagon with a big sunroof and MT becoming available in the US. Which could be ordered without the sunroof.
A guy can dream...
So...a Mazda6 wagon with a stick. Just head north, they have them in Canada.
If I have enough time today, I'm totally sketching out the planetary wankel.

I tried to sneak in this morning for a peek by telling the guard I needed to use the restroom. Security during the Auto Show is much tighter than during the produce expo.

Lid blown off = hardtop Miata? Seems sort of a strange way to present it.

Agreed. But they hired Duran Duran for the original reveal. You can't get much weirder than that!!
