So I decided to keep the VW. At least for now. We'll see how I feel in the fall. Anyway, my wife is less than pleased with the number of cars in the driveway and garage. She said I have 5 project cars. Implying too many. I disagreed, pointing out that JCDV and the VW are part time drivers. Only the two Vettes and the new Astro are projects. She said, if they run unpredictably, then they're projects. Damn! She got me.
I can send you a photo of my garage if it helps.

Wait until the next time her car needs repairs and point out that it's a project car.
Wives, can't live with them, can't live without them. Go figure.
Happy wife equals happy life.
Nothing rhymes with happy husband.
There are currently six cars at my house and two licensed drivers. One is my work car so it's free but taking up parking space, one is a parts car, other four run and drive. The only one that my wife dislikes is the non running parts car.
I think my wife defines project car by whichever one I am currently working on.

Shoot! By that metric, virtually every car ever made in the United Kingdom, including current production, could be called a project! Italy, too!

My wife only has two requests; they are not a hard rules but I've come to see the wisdom of these rules.
1. The car must run and be complete when I drag it home.............it doesn't have to run well.
2. Only take apart one car at a time.
Of all the car people I know I can only think of one who can manage multiple project cars at the same time. My observation of people with multiple project cars; it takes them years (10-15) to get all of them running, if they ever do get them all running.

My wife does not really care and wants her own 1600 dual port motor to rebuild.

Your wife is totally right. I was talking to a friend recently about how I don't understand people who can 1 car without being anxious about it developing a problem all the time. I've had 3+ cars for almost 2 decades now. My thinking is that I can take one off the road to wrench on it and still have 2 running cars. That way if one breaks down or needs light maintenance, I've got a backup. I realize that most people aren't wrenching on their cars over the weekends so maybe 3 cars is overkill for normal people, and people in a relationship can always rely on their partner for transportation... but jeeze, don't single people relying on 1 car worry about what happens if it breaks down?
And my friend says "well no, I buy new cars under warranty. If something happens under warranty I just get it towed to the dealer and they give me a loaner. Then once the warranty runs out after 5-6 years I trade it in and put it towards a new one." The thought never even crossed my mind. It was that moment I realized that it's not him with a weird outlook, it's me.

No, he has a weird outlook. You can by three decent used cars for the price of a new one.
