So just how far can the OE components be pushed? I mean SBE 5.3’s are everywhere from 6-900rwhp...

The big question.
KA24s at least can use Skyline transmissions, or better yet TH350/400 adaptors for RB engines.
The problem with a manual trans and high boost engines is the money you saved with a cheap engine is spent on a clutch beefy enough to handle the torque you are making because you have to make power with boost, not RPM. Double- and triple-disk clutches are not cheap.

And with an auto you also gain the advantage of a torque converter helping you get it spooled more easily.
Fast tacos!
I had a stock 2000 TRD 4x4 with a TRD blower and a five speed.
I never got a time slip on it, but it was fun to launch in 4-high, yank it into 2-high, then shift into second. Had to be really coordinated to get all that done before hitting the rev limiter, but I got it down.
It wasn't fast, probably mid 14s or slower but I pulled multiple car lengths at the launch on some pretty quick cars.
2RZ and 3RZ both came out of 2wd Tacomas so they bolt right up to whatever RWD transmissions the Tacoma uses. Beyond that I have no idea.
