Our cat "Nibbler" who was the most loving, happy cat ever was murdered by a speeder in our neighborhood this morning. I had to find her laying in the road in a pool of blood. She was scaredy cat and spent her outside time hiding under a tree. I don't know how people could be so cruel to just run off. We are really taking it hard because that just loved us soooo much.
Rest in peace Nibbler. God I'll miss you.
my sincere condolences, we lost one last fall and its never easy.
I refuse to let my cats outside because i live in far too crowded an area for me to feel that they are safe.
that is a damn shame.. I am very sorry for you loss.. Honestly, unless the animal causes damage to the car to where it is obvious or cannot go any further, most people do not stop.
Few years ago I killed a beagle on the highway, destroyed the front bumper cover and fog on my Ti.. I almost stopped in time before I got the pup (came to halt with the rear wheel sitting ontop of the poor dog.) but as it was the highway, I really had no where to go but to pull over, assess damage, and keep going.

Sorry about your loss, but murdered implies a premeditated act instead of an unfortunate accident.
I almost lost my life when a cat unexpectedly ran out in front of my motorcycle and I hit it in the middle of a turn.
Did I stop? Yes. Was there a collar on the cat ? No.
Was the cat trying to murder me ? Naw.
We finally pulled indoor/outdoor kitteh inside after a couple of the neighborhood pets were torn up by coyotes(?) He gets all amped to go outside when the weather is nice, but TFB. Screened in porch will be a must have at the next house.
We just put one of ours down and it really, really, REALLY sucked. I'm sorry for your loss.

My cat stays in the house. He got his fronts declawed when I married a dog (well, his owner); otherwise we'd have a blind, scarred dog. I also moved from a busy street to a great neighborhood, but kitty still stays inside.
Sorry about your loss. My cat acts more like a dog, and he definitely is a best friend.

Thank you for all of the kind words. We live on a very quiet, low traffic street and they hit her so hard she flew down the street. They didn't stop and didn't care. People suck.
We buried my girlfriend's 18 year old mutt just yesterday. Same situation; wandered into the road, got thumped, driver never stopped,
Of course, she was mostly blind, and never saw it coming.
Still sucks.

About 5 years ago, my wife's dauchshund Jezebel got out of the fence around our house. I don't think she lasted more than 2 minutes before she got hit and killed by a car. I will NEVER forget the sounds that came from my wife when she found the limp dead body of that dog. We have another now, and that dog is very closely watched. We love our pets, but they do make bad decisions.

Sorry for all of the drama. It's just tough to find your loved pet laying in the road in a pool of teir own blood with nobody there to say sorry.
We adopted Nibbler as a kitten from the Humane Society in Oct 2006. She was the definition of "bright eyed and bushy tailed" and had the most amazing personality. Every morning she woke me up with a friendly "meow" right by face so I would feed her breakfast. She loved to frolic in the backyard and chase butterflies.
I'm going to miss her so much. People don't realize how easy it is to get attached to a pet, they become almost like children. It's hard enough when they pass away of old age, but to be hit by car at 3.
Again, I apologize for all of the screaming but it's been a very traumatic day. I fed her breakfast and let her out back to play this morning. She slept in bed with us last night. Our other cat is confused too, he lost his sister/playmate.
We took a plaster of paris of her paw and took her back to the Humane Society to get cremated. They are so great there.

I've been there, it sucks. My cat Poster Nutbag was hit by a car last year and I had to take a vacation day just to bury her. Fortunately, my other two cats seem to be disinclined or just scared to go by the road in front of my house. Having a large wooded area behind the house helps as they seem to find that more appealing.

I lost my Birman cat "Angus" more than a year ago in the same way. It still hurts every day. He chose us as a stray and it still hurts me to drive home from Church on Sunday mornings. He'd hear us come home and climb over the backyard fence then come bounding through the yard to welcome us home. Not any more, of course. It's like a big void in my week that I can't escape.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Man, I am sorry to hear that. I too love kittehs.
Sorry to hear that. My cat Ike (he had beedy little eyes and a flopping head, becouse he ate so much) past away about a year ago. he was 8 years old. In a nutshell he was like a calm dog. I miss him every day. O' and he weigh 30 lbs !!!
Sorry about your cat.
My cat was hit by a car and is now tail-less. (Got him from a junkyard as a kitten. Stayed in for a few years, but constantly tried to escape. Now, he comes in and out of the garage at will).
I hit a dog as a teenager and stopped. Bad idea. Screaming people who aren't interested in a 'sorry' or any conversation. The dog lived.
I'd err on the side of not stopping in most cases, unfortunately.

Awww, that sucks so bad. I see pets dead on the road all the time, and while we don't have one of our own, it still hurts to think someone's 4-legged friend isn't coming home that night.
That being said, I've killed 2 pets myself. I made the MISTAKE of stopping the first time, to be honest and apologize. I was rolling down a rural road not more than 5 over and before I knew it a cat/dog darted out from a yard less than 10ft in front of me and I nailed the dog, he flew several feet and landed in the ditch across the road. I didn't even get my foot over to the brake before I hit it. I was pretty sure I knew which house it came from so I went up to let them know and apologize. I was greeted by a seemingly polite couple, explained what happened, took a right hook across my face and fell to the ground while the wife proceeded to call me every derogatory name she could think of. I was only 17 or so at the time....
Never again will I stop....

That sucks. I feel sorry for those of you who have lost a pet to a car, but that's why God invented fences.
I'm terribly sorry to hear about poor Nibbler. She sounded like a wonderful soul to have in your life. All I can say is to try and think of the good times you had with her. When you're ready, I'm sure Nibble wouldn't mind if you rescued another wonderful soul from the Humane Society.
That just sucks mate, our pets are our kids, I feel for you
If my dog gets hit by a speeding car its my fault. Sorry, but you gotta keep your pets in check
Yeah, I too offer my condolences. It sucks to lose your cat to an unfortunate accident like that. However, its even worse to lose them to a criminal act of premeditated violence.
We always had cats when I was a kid. Every so often, one of our indoor/outdoor cats would go missing. When they did come back, several times the cat of the moment would have terrible sores in their mouth, which would cause them to refuse to eat because of the pain, and eventually they would pass away. We attributed it to some kind of natural pathology of outdoor cats, and said our goodbyes and buried the cat out by the apple tree in the back yard. After the 3rd occurrence of this however, my folks thought there was too much coincidence, so they took our cat to the vet to see what they could tell us about the situation...
This is where the fury begins...
The vet told us that the sores in the cats mouth was actually an ACID burn, probably the muriatic kind of acid readily available at hardware stores, and used for cleaning septic tanks and stripping wood etc. This is a tasteless and odorless clear liquid. It can be easily added to almost any food and will cause instant burns to the mouth and esophogus not to mention the rest of the digestive tract if the food reaches that far before regurgitation.
We though "who could be so cruel"?? Turns out, the berkleying old bastard who lived across the street could. You know the guy...the "get off my lawn, im keeping the frisbee that landed in my yard, quit making all that racket" old guy that lives in every neighborhood. One of his neighbors overheard him talking to his wife out on his porch, telling his wife about how proud he was to be "ridding the neighborhood of those smelly a$$ cats" and how it was his "right since the cats were trespassing on his yard". This neighbor told my folks (my bro and sis were friends with his kids, so he knew of our plight). My dad confronted him about it and tried to be rational with him. When my dad wouldnt let it go and threatened to call the ASPCA, the old man began spewing obscenities at my old man, who took it all in stride given the situation. But it was when the old F-er told my dad that his kids would get it too if we ever set foot in his yard that my dad knocked a 60 year old man clean out in his front doorway. Hindsight being what it is, definitely not his best moment, and he doesnt like to talk about it these days, but that old guy moved 3 weeks later, and no more feline carnage was ever visited upon our street henceforth....and the only thing that ever kept one of our frisbees after that was a roof
