Suddenly I'm writing a letter to Santa.

Am I the only one surprised at how beautiful that is and how ugly everything else they make is? Would love to see them build more classic-looking vehicles like that. The exo look I'm sure is the performance way, but it sure is ugly.

Santa here. This one will be a direct import from MEV Limited in the UK, and it's still under development by Stuart. As to the sudden change in aesthetic, well he's involved some new people over there. This is a CAD-based design with CNC-cut body plugs. The basic structure will use Miata subframes like the Mevster. I've yet to see any pictures of it, but I'm excited for the final result.

Anything more than that and you'll need to ask Kevin at info@exomotive.com . He's been absolutely slammed with inquiries on this thing; I'm sure he's very practiced on all the questions.

Read the thread again. That pic was posted as what some hope they'll offer, but isn't definite by any stretch.

Personally, if the DBR1 kit is reasonably close to the pics and actually makes it to production (part of me wonders if Aston Martin may have soemthing to say about this...), I can figure out how to get such a thing registered in PA, and I have a shop to build it in, then I could absolutely see me buying one.

This is one of my favorite cars of all time. I will be watching the progress with great interest.

Hey hey hey, hold your horses. That profile design was posed by someone else and penned in 2D by a fan a while ago. The language is nice, but that bodywork would add a lot to the cost of the kit and also not fit the engine. I'm also curious as to how the designer envisioned the front end and front-quarter view.

The thing to take away from that image: The Exocet's proportions can be made to look damn good.

...and the fact it's basically a rebodied Herald (or Spitfire). Granted, since it keeps the frame and running gear of the donor car, registration may be easier.

I realize that the pics are of a real Aston. It will be interesting to see how close the kit will be to it in looks.

I like the idea of the Sammio. In fact I purchased one and had it shipped to me to NY, USA. The shipping was almost $4K! When the body arrived I was very disappointed in the quality. One of the worst works of fiberglass that I had ever seen. I didn't want to build anything that would help promote that business so I cut the body up and tossed it.

That being said the company was sold and has a new owner. I understand that production has been shut down while the quality issues are being addressed. I also understand that it will be re-introduced under a new name. I wish the new owner well.

In the mean time I am making my own 50's inspired body for my Miata. This is intended as a fun project.

Well, yeah... but Exocet is calling it an Aston replica, so we have been given an expectation the kit will reasonably resemble the original. I don't expect it to be exactly the same as I'm sure a few adjustments will be required to fit over the Miata bits (again - nothing defined, but somewhat hinted).

It appears that MEV is moving in a new direction. As has been noted, while the Sonic 7 is a very pretty car, heretofore the other designs have been, er... cosmetically challenged. It looks like there's been a serious infusion of cash and expertise into the operation. Perhaps Warren can illuminate this for us.

As has been noted, shipping costs are brutal. Manufacturing under license would seem to make a lot of sense. But the streets are littered with the bodies of kit car companies. For every Factory Five, Birkin or Caterham, there's forty or so companies that only exist in the form of a handful of kits and memories. I wish Exomotive the best.

Actually, the website seems to show several pictures of the real thing, a painting and a Forza video. Most interesting of all is a rendering of a body that implies it's the CAD model for the actual kit. I think a video of that rendering spinning as well as multiple angle shots would be the most informative thing to put on the site, and pictures of the real thing should be clearly labeled as such.

There's the implication the kit will look like the real thing, but we all know how fine the line is between beautiful and awkward. I hope the kit is well executed.
