some people do not like the pillbox look.. personally I like my sightlines pretty clear. It's one of the reasons I have almost always owned roadsters and euro hatchbacks

I've noticed most convertibles have worse rear visibility than coupes with the top up, but when i had my Miata i had literally NO top and yeah, visibility was great. Probably would have been more likely to live through my mistakes in the Magnum, though. My current convertible has pretty poor rear visibility because it has no rear 1/4 windows at all. I don't mind.

Speaking of sightlines, i just had a RAV4 rental and noticed that Toyota had included small inset mirrors in the side mirrors so that even if you set up your side mirrors to stare at the side of your own car like an idiot, at least PART of the mirror would still show you your blind spot. So thoughtful!

yes.. my Roadsters were always fiat 124s.. which still have one of the best tops to use and see out of... and unless it was raining or snowing, the top was down.

I really do not recommend driving with the top down when it is snowing...

I think the Mazda5 is probably the best of this group. You could strongly make the argument that it's a minivan, and by it's body style, it is. But it's much smaller than a traditional minivan, is readily available in the OP price range and makes one heck of a wagon.
