Probably not too good for a car, but interesting none-the-less. I had no idea about external combustion engines

A friend has an antique room fan that's powered by a Stirling engine. It seems kind of counterproductive, having to have a lit flame to power a fan designed for cooling, but it works.
I built a Sterling engine in my high school days. It used mason jar, soup can lid for a piston, and some mechanics wire for the connecting rod. Thankfully it worked long enough to get an "A" before completely failing.
My Uncle had a oscillating fan that was power by a Kerosene burner at the bottom. Goes right along with the seemingly counterproductive Stirling ceiling fan.
