Hey guys. I daily a manual Tribute and have been hearing a strange noise from the engine bay for well, a while. I am stumped. It is rattle-like in nature. I

It only occurs when cold and is not related to RPM that I can tell. Clutch in or out does not change (I think it used to go away when the clutch pedal was depressed but can't remember). I initially chalked it up to a loose heat shield but it has recently gotten louder. Once it has warmed up, it no longer making noise.

Any suggestions on what to check or how to isolate the problem further? I couldn't find anything loose in the 'bay and am thinking it comes from the trans side. I feel like it may be something transmission or clutch related but ??

Haha! You know, if it didn't sound like such a hooptie on the outside of the car, that would do the trick

It's the heat shield because as the metal is heated, it expands and the rattle goes away.
